One of my very good friends Jen, is a designer and blogger over at House Collected. She recently designed a gorgeous kids space for Corrine from Mint Arrow. Corrine blogs about the latest deals on quality product. I had to see more photos of this space and find out the details! So I asked Jen and Corrine to share the space with all of us for Everything Home Magazine for the January Issue. You can receive the online FREE issue every month right to your in-box by signing up HERE. You can also view the entire Everything Home January issue right HERE.
I asked Corrine how she decided on the look of the space and if her daughter had any opinions on her new room. This is what she said “If it were up to Anabelle, the room would have been decked out in ‘Frozen’ blankets, wallpaper and window treatments.”
Corrine and Jen took a little authority over the design decisions to make sure the space would be one that would grow with her and last her throughout all of her favorite movies of her childhood.
Jen added that when she talked to Corrine about what she wanted in the space, her only requests were that it would be bright, happy and playful.
Corrine loves Land of Nod’s products. Jen knew that their iconic Jenny Lind bed in bright yellow would be the perfect piece to design the room around, it was the jumping off point.
Jen wanted the rest of the palette to remain colorful and fun, but not compete with or be obnoxious with the yellow and so the mint, pale pink and purple tones do just that. The navy, polka dot rug grounds the space and allows for variance in scale and pattern.
The wallpaper and drapes were the big splurges in the room, but the wallpaper allows the room to have a focal point without having too much competing for your attention on the wall behind the bed and the drapes give the room the perfect touch of youthful femininity. The pillows from Caitlin Wilson tie the room together. You can find the wallpaper HERE.
I asked Corrine how they keep the room looking so nice and not cluttered with toys. She said that they keep all her daughters toys in a little nook in the hall with her play kitchen and dollhouse. Corrine doesn’t like to have toys in her room because she wants her to sleep when it is time to sleep! I love that idea, especially for young kids.
When Corrine and her family moved into their home last spring, the first thing she did was have the entire house repainted in a clean bright white color. She wanted her home to have that bright and airy feel. That is main reason they decided to only wallpaper one wall in her daughters room. With the busy wallpaper the room still has that same airiness.
The bed, the duvet and sham, lounge chair, step stool, nightlight, and shelves all came from Land of Nod. The rest of the items are all finds from stores ranging from Ikea to Anthropologie. Some that were more expensive that made the space, and some that were less expensive to help keep us in budget. Thank you Jen, House Collected and Corrine, Mint Arrow for sharing this darling bedroom with us!
