Our backyard has had some major work done this year. We have loved taking you along with the transformation we have been dreaming of and saving for since we moved in five years ago! You may think that with cooler temperatures and shorter days on their way, we may be thinking of packing up the backyard and heading in for the year. NO WAY! Just because summer is shortly coming to a close, doesn’t mean that we will stop using this fun new space. Even before the updates, this has always been our favorite place to play together as a family! I snapped some photos of the yard and deck the other ... Read More

Our new TimberTech Deck with Contemporary Rail and String Lights
Our back deck is really an extension of our living space. When you live in a smaller home, every room is a living room and this outdoor great room has always been that for us! We love to make smore's and unwind as a family on our back deck. As soon as the weather permits, we eat dinner out here nightly. When we open up the Christen bed and breakfast to visiting friends and family, we are out here even more. Oh, the memories we have made here. When we added on to our home, we had to remove the old wood deck to make space for our kitchen and master bathroom. Honestly, it was a little ... Read More
Outdoor Furniture Sources and Deck Progress
Our deck is coming along!!! We can walk on it! And we could walk right off it….the sides aren't up yet! Hopefully this week. Yesterday it was well over 55 degrees. It was gorgeous. Finn was playing on our slide, and in the sand and even asked me for some water so his toys could "swim". Kevin and I were measuring for something exciting we are adding in our backyard, any guesses??!! And also measuring for our deck furniture. Wanted to show you the deck progress and what furniture we are adding. I searched through Target, Walmart, World Market to Serena & Lily and picked some of my favorite ... Read More
Deck- Switching from Lattice to Slats and How we Clean our Deck
We have wanted to change the lattice below the deck in our backyard for awhile now. We noticed how badly it needed an update when we changed the exterior of our home to the white shake shingle impressions. I wrote a big blog post all about the inspiration we found just in our neighborhood. Instead of the lattice there were so many great ideas to do horizontal slats rather than the lattice. I honestly thought this project seemed SO big, we would have to hire a professional big. Wrong. Kevin is the "professional". I tell you what this guy just gets after it. And he is self-taught, there wasn't ... Read More
Friday Favorites starts with Deck String Lights and Summer Essentials
Friday Favorites is a siding update along with some other favorite things! We have been busy putting things back together after our new Cedar Impressions were installed! The big question was if we should put our black vinyl shutters back up. Funny thing is I had not even thought about it until the installers asked me, rather than just putting it all back how it was. It is ALWAYS good to question (that coming from a born "Questioner"). So then I thought hmmmm, maybe I shouldn't! After much deliberation and help from a lot of you, we went with no shutters in the back! I will share tomorrow what ... Read More
15 Examples Instead of using Lattice under the Deck
You know that book "If you give a mouse a cookie"? Well if you give a girl new siding, she wants a new deck. I mean not a full new deck. I have looked at our deck before but once you elevate one thing it makes the other shabby things looking...well, shabby! We have lattice underneath our deck and just don't love the look (for us) and mixed with our new Cedar Shingles. Too busy. A lot of you have the same thoughts about the lattice under your deck too and were looking for ideas! Thankfully the homes in our area are full of ideas to replace the lattice work. We live close to the beach and the ... Read More
How we hung our Deck String Lights, Privacy Screen and Artwork Outside
Sharing how we hung our String Lights or rather our Deck Lights today. I am a accent lighting fanatic! We live in a 1950's home that really hasn't had any major updates to the exterior besides the small ascetic things we have done. So you aren't going to find an outlet outside. If you are building a new home- this is where you make a mental note to add a plug in several spots outside. The plug issue wasn't going to stop me from having a glowing strand of String Lights off our back deck. Also added a privacy screen that I will share the details on this post too! Disclaimer- this is what WE ... Read More
Outdoor Casual Dining on our Painted Deck
It finally stopped raining and we pulled out all the furniture from the shed. Can I tell you how excited I am to start eating out here every night? Instead of my normal Friday Favorites post I joined Melaine from My Sweet Savannah and 6 other bloggers to share some outdoor dining ideas today. We really love using our deck- it feels like our 1100 square foot home doubles in size when the weather warms up! We keep it casual around here for dinner and when we have people over to eat. You will really never see me set a fancy table- only at Thanksgiving and even then it is REALLY casual. I ... Read More
DIY Painted Deck and Decor
We shared our back yard deck reveal last week HERE we partnered with Raymour and Flanigan on the project. We are absolutely loving this new space. I am actually sitting on our new sectional writing this post and taking in some vitamin D. I promised to share how we painted the deck, and by we I mean my sweet hubby. It was a real labor of love, a lot of spindles needed to be painted. He actually started to paint it with some paint that he picked up at Home Depot that was on sale. I was away for the summer visiting family in Utah and he sent me a picture, and I told him "ya, that does ... Read More
Backyard Deck Remodel
I am so excited to share our backyard deck remodel with you that we partnered with Raymour and Flanigan on. I shared last week my inspiration photos you can see HERE. My husband actually flew out and looked at homes...alone when we were looking to move from Utah to Connecticut. We had looked at houses online and I knew the ones that I liked from the pictures, but it was still hard to tell exactly what the area was like or even the house. He did a great job of keeping me involved and looking for the best for our families needs and budget. I was working full time as a store buyer and manager ... Read More
