I wasn't going to do a full blog post on our new automatic locks, but we love them so much they needed a little post! I think there is a stigma around automatic door locks- that they are ugly. There I said it. I have thought that too. I actually didn't want to put the automatic lock on our front door because everyone would see that door the most! But after I found the locks we went with it didn't matter where they went- they look awesome! Automatic locks are now one thing I would say is one of our best home purchases. I know many of you would agree with that statement! There it ... Read More

Cleaning Schedule- Free Printable and our new Vacuum
Thank you eBay for sponsoring this post This post has been a long time coming! I regularly get asked what my cleaning schedule looks like and how I keep my home tidy. Or I get the question "does your home always look clean?" It honestly is clean and put together most of the time. The only time it is a mess is when I am baking, cooking or in the middle of a project. The kids are really good about cleaning up after their projects or playing too. We don't start something new until we clean up. I used to say it is because we live in a small house, if it is a mess there is no where to go! But ... Read More
Small Space Living Feature- Tiny Canal Cottage
I am very excited to share this Small Space Living with you today! One big reason is several of you told me about @WhitneyLeighMorris and said she would be perfect for the series! I am so glad you introcuded me to her and that she agreed to share her organizing tips and tricks for living in a small space. Also answer all of your top questions on living in a small house. Whitney does it so atuehtically and beautifully. I got caught in a rabbit-hole on her blog. Taking in all the ways she lives green too. So inspired by her. I know you will be too (if you aren't already). What is ... Read More
Fall Front Porch- Pink Door Stays!
Favorite thing to decorate for Fall! The front porch! So excited to share this with you today. And I just realized that this is the first holiday I get to decorate the front of the house with our new white shake shingle siding! It feels so fresh and more personal to our family. You know when you move into an existing home and it smells different, there are weird noises and doesn't feel quite like you? Well, now almost 3 1/2 years later we have put our stamp on about everything in this little 1950's cape. And just a reminder it takes TIME! Making a home doesn't happen overnight. And making a ... Friday Favorites Porches- Awning and Fall Doormats
Have you started adding some fall decor to your home? My favorite place to decorate for fall is our front porch. I have slowly been gathering ideas and thinking what I want to do. And Lola, my mini me keeps asking me when we are going to do it. Maybe this weekend we will start. For Friday Favorite today it is about porches and doormats- because let's be honest those are a BIG part of the front porch. Agree? We just got THIS black awning below for our back porch and love it! I always thought we were going to have to build something and was planning on it. Until I saw Young House Love ... Read More
Our Free Little Library
Kevin built me a Little Free Library! I have been saying for sometime now that I want to build a Little Free Library to put in front of our house to share books with the community. If you haven't heard of Little Free Libraries before it is a neighborhood book exchange where anyone is encouraged to take a book or leave a book! The first Little Free Library was built in 2009 and now there are over 75,000 Little Free Libraries out there in the world! Anyone can build a Little Free Library (more on that at the end) or you can buy one already made or a kit. There is even a Facebook group for Little ... Read More
How to make a DIY Chalkboard- Outdoor or Indoor
This post is a little overdue! I totally forgot that some of you wanted our easy chalkboard tutorial on how we made a quick DIY chalkboard for our garden space. We figured out how to make our own simple chalkboard out of necessity. Our fence seemed like it needed something in the space to the right of our nesting box. And not to mention an outdoor chalkboard is a fun thing for kids to use. Our kids haven't used it much because we were gone for 5 weeks after we made it. A DIY chalkboard would really be fun by an area where you have outdoor sports to keep track of scores! We actually ... Read More
Deck- Switching from Lattice to Slats and How we Clean our Deck
We have wanted to change the lattice below the deck in our backyard for awhile now. We noticed how badly it needed an update when we changed the exterior of our home to the white shake shingle impressions. I wrote a big blog post all about the inspiration we found just in our neighborhood. Instead of the lattice there were so many great ideas to do horizontal slats rather than the lattice. I honestly thought this project seemed SO big, we would have to hire a professional big. Wrong. Kevin is the "professional". I tell you what this guy just gets after it. And he is self-taught, there wasn't ... Read More
Friday Favorites starts with New Home Decor
Home. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Even with our homes. I actually didn't need to grow fonder of our home. but going away for 5 weeks really makes you miss it! We went to Utah to visit family and friends and to do a little traveling, so we were missing our own space. I really missed my tub and our little kitchen. As you know I really like to style my home and play around with home decor. It is a hobby and also my career. I think some of you might share the same hobby. And hobbies typically cost money....right?:) One way to get better at styling your home and using home decor is to ... Read More
Our Utah Home Tour plus Downsizing and Moving Tips
We have lived in Connecticut for almost four years! Utah was where we lived before the home you see so much of now on the blog. I thought it would be fun to share our Utah home with you. I stopped by our old home last night to take a picture of the exterior. This home was close to three times the size of our Connecticut home, 3200 square feet. Thankfully I did have some interior photos to share with you. Along with the home tour I have some Moving and Downsizing Tips for you- what I wish we would have read before we moved. There is more to the story of stopping by to ... Read More
