Eat-in Kitchen with Wallpaper Wall and Industrial Island

My sister and her boyfriend just moved into a new place that is great for them! If you remember we helped them with their bedroom not too long ago. I wanted to help them pull their kitchen together for my sisters birthday! They have a great open kitchen that had plenty of room for a large dining table and space to add an island. Also the room had some nice woodwork on one wall that was added by the previous home owner. We felt the space could use some color to match both of their fun personalities and style!

Eat-in Kitchen Before-

I had styled that bookcase in this room and they had a great dining table (they found locally) that I wanted to center with the large sliding doors and window. Also add a light fixture to cozy up the space. I knew the rug wouldn’t work in this space after adding an island and it was too much in the walkway to the back door.

Doesn’t it feel like a charming restaurant?? We painted the wood on the walls in Hale Navy and continued it on the trim around the doors, windows and pantry door. Then added that fun peel and stick wallpaper from the Drew Barrymore collection with Walmart. Such an affordable way to add some character to any room! Just $35 a roll and we only needed 4 rolls, it really transformed the space!

Adding the woven bamboo light fixture helped to define the dining area and cozy up the large room. Plus it was a great price compared to others I have seen.

I don’t actually always love a rug under dining tables, they can get in the way especially in eat-in kitchens where you have to step on the rug to walk around the room. So now the wallpaper and curtains bring the color and pattern!

We hung this simple black curtain rod across the header over the sliding door and windows. We can pull them completely closed if needed. I LOVE these windowpane curtain panels from the Gap Home Collection with Walmart. Great price for a set of two and add so much to the room. I did three panels on each side.

They had a bench that matched the table, but the chairs they had were too brown with the floor. So I added these two spindle wood blue chairs and these fabric dining chairs. Both really comfortable and great quality!

For the center of the table I added a wood cutting board as the base, it pulls in the wood floor and also makes it easy to lift away if needed. Plus practical to use for serving on! A jar with fern clippings adds some height too!

Even tho the wallpaper is busy, hanging art helps to break up all the pattern. My mom and sister asked what they could get her for her birthday and I suggested the art! My mom gave her the Grapefruit art and my sister gave her the “You da best”! The other two pieces she had and I found the cactus at our local plant shop.

She had the bookcase so I styled it with dishes, plants, baskets and cutting boards. Practical and fun things!

From this view you can see where we added the island! We made sure there was at least 2.5-3′ of walking space before adding it…

Helps to tape off on the floor any furniture you are considering to make sure the size works.

I found this stainless steal work table at Walmart.com, really great price and pulls in their appliances. Love the industrial vibe too!

Also we installed these pendant lights over the island, really makes the island make sense and a focal point.

These wood stools are the perfect non-match to the industrial island. They could even add two more if they decide they want more seating!
