Get ready for a good looking picture… ok I tricked you it is Gross! But I have to share so you can see how far we have come on this 6 Week One Room Challenge. It is fun to see how far everyone else is coming and their inspiration.

Notice the forest green door. The bad chair molding that cuts the already small room in half, in most cases chair rail molding needs to go, ok ALL cases. The tiny unusable built in corner cabinet. Bad yellow walls, that don’t do anything for the cream appliances or for anyone.
There were very old and very ugly roller shades on all the windows. I wanted custom roman shades and since roman shades are the most expensive window treatment to have made, I had to get creative. If custom roman shades fit into your budget I would recommend them, they always look best when they are made to fit inside the window frame.
I found the above Romans from Light in the Box and ordered them but they were on perpetual back order. I happened to be at Bed Bath Beyond because the closet Target is 25 minutes away and I was having retail shopping withdrawals. Good thing because I found roman shades on clearance that were the right size, I even found a navy one for my bathroom for $7!

They needed a little something to make them look a little more custom. I found this gray linen table cloth at Ikea. I nervously cut it up and ironed and pinned it to my existing roman. I was going to sew it but ended up just using my hot glue gun, so much quicker and looks great.
I love the peep of the slubby linen in the light.
We popped off the chair rail and painted all the walls in Cloud Cover from Benjamin Moore.
Then we (by we, Kevin) painted the inside of the door in Gray from Benjamin Moore (yes the color is called Gray).
Here is the finished product. You can see I still need to glue the linen fabric banding to the bottom of the other roman. And I strategically took the picture so you couldn’t see the linoleum floors, those are gone in about 12 days, but who is counting?
Excited for next week, my cabinets are getting started Monday!
Was your chair rail nailed or glued or both? Did you have any damaged from removing it?
It was glued and nailed. We had to use putty to fill in the wall and wait for it to dry then lightly sand then paint. I still so t think we did the greatest job, we were rushing.
Looks awesome!! I love the character of your door!! Also, I am glad that you said chair rail sucks. I had no idea. #noted
Thanks Rach! Haha, yes chair cuts the room in half and makes it look short and kind of dated in my opinion.
Loving the color combo and the linen shade! Nice work.
Thank you very much. So nice of you.
Just caught up on your posts for the ORC. I'm impressed that you lived so long without the garbage disposal. Ours went out and I made my hubby run to Home Depot and install another one right away as I just didn't know what to do without it (kidding, I'm sure I really could live without it, but not easily). Love your ideas for this kitchen!
It has been almost 5 months! When we first moved in I had no idea what to do! I can't believe all the previous people lived without it! Thanks for reading 🙂
