Ella kept saying last week “I mom just don’t decorate for Christmas outside yet”. She is 10 and a little concerned with people thinking her mom is crazy for Christmas decorating. She felt it was kind-of acceptable to decorate this week. So here we go! Christmas on our front porch 2018! And this is the first year living in this home (it will be 4 years December 31st) that we put up Christmas lights on the house. It was pretty exciting to see! And Kevin was even more thankful for our small home now then ever before, lights were up in less than an hour.
Well Ella…here are your mom and dad having too much fun embarrassing you…. (ps- she actually loves how it looks!).
Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post
Christmas Exterior Ideas-
It isn’t going to look as shiny and new as our painted cement steps did when we painted them in the spring. But I think it is good for you to see how the look at the end of the season. We will re-paint them again come spring. Also we left the front door pink!
Front Door Paint Color- Coral Perfection from Sherwin Williams
I always like to start with an inspiration idea before I start decorating any space. This year my inspiration were THESE mini pre-lit trees. In years past I used real trees and thought I would save myself the stress of taking care of them (we travel a lot in December) to do faux trees that are pre-lit and also we can re-use again and again! They even looked cute inside our home (and super affordable). ** Those trees say in-door use. I recommend using on a covered porch. And changing the lights to outdoor lights, since the price is so good! I just love these trees for inside too.
I also like to mix in a couple real plants with the faux to bring the space to life. I used THESE planters that I had for over a year now. I was going to use THESE Galvanized Barrels but decided to use what I had, I think I will use those barrels in the girls room.
In the past I have also used real garland. While I love the look, it is pretty messy and hard to keep looking nice when I decorate so early in the season. I found THESE pre-lite flocked garlands that worked perfect. They are nine feet long and I used two. Just did two nails in each corner of the door frame and wired the garland to the nails. Love the soft white with our pink door too.
I have had that door basket, which is out of stock but I found similar HERE. Rather then doing too much greenery I did a bundle of birch logs! I have to say I REALLY love how this turned out. You can find a bundle of birch logs HERE and HERE. Kevin cut ours to varied sizes. Oh and that pineapple door knocker was original to our 1950’s home, but guess what I found one that is pretty identical HERE from Walmart!
With our gold door knocker I like to pull that finish in somewhere else. Thrilled to have found THESE gold lanterns for under $20! I added THESE battery operated candles to them. They come with a remote so I can just turn them on and off from my front door.
We found some pinecones (find some HERE) and spray painted them in my favorite gold spray paint to pull in the gold accents on the porch! They also pop more now. Those topiaries are Dwarf Alberta’s that we have had for 3 years now!
I have always wanted wreaths hanging from our windows. I found THESE flocked pre-lit wreaths at Walmart.com too. I love that Walmart has really great home decor items that do not cost a lot and they are stylish! If you haven’t noticed Walmart has become my spot to go for decor decor items lately. I just ordered two beds for different projects that I can’t wait to share, both were delivered within the week of ordering. And free shipping on orders over $35 – no membership required!
The lights on the roof line I found HERE that are big-bulb. Kevin just used THESE clips. Don’t they just look so fun?! Do you hang Christmas lights on your house?
I was so impressed with all of my finds on Walmart.com you can even shop Home Decor by style! I loved that they even mixed in some Christmas Decor ideas in by style. Very helpful! I even considered THESE tree dusted with gold that they featured in their Mid-Century collection. You can shop that collection HERE.
And it started to SNOW!!! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ Had to snap some more pics to share!

Ordering decor online is so nerve-wracking, not being able to SEE things in person. If you’ve ordered from WalMart and choose to return something, can you do that at the store?
YES! So what I do is I shop by brand “Walmart.com” then anything that doesn’t work I can take back right to the store! Other items from other brands I have been able to send back but I had to pay shipping, one company they sent a shipping label. So just make sure to read their return policy.
It looks magical! How did you hang the wreaths?
Thanks!
Love it. Where can I find the bells that are on the book library? I’ve been searching for bells.
It looks AMAZINGLY cute and cozy, and magical! I love it.
It is so beautiful. You do such a great job. Thank you. I wait til after Thanksgiving.I am overwhelmed hubby turns 70 having hip replacement in two weeks. Ugh so much for Christmas.:)))J
Where are your window boxes from (or maybe more important), what material?? Do they hold up on the winter?? I just got some and was going to wait until spring to put them up because I didn’t know what to do for the winter!!
The dwarf Albertas held up for 3 winters now!
I talked more about window boxes here-

Oh my…this is so pretty! I have noticed this past year that Walmart has really stepped up its game.Lots of great finds there these days. I think I’ll start decorating Thanksgiving afternoon. Bought our first faux tree, prelit and flocked. We have always had a real tree, but like you said, it is hard to keep up with if you travel, etc. and today’s fake trees are very realistic. Plus, I’m a perfectionist and putting the lights on the tree is getting a little aggravating for me. What used to take me just a little bit of time now takes me an entire day! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
It looks beautiful! I personally don’t think about doing Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving so I really like that your decorations don’t scream “Christmas” as much as they look festive and wintry…if that makes sense! You can always add more later.
So gorgeous ! I just bought my first home and I can’t wait to decorate in time for the holidays . Can you tell me where you got the runner going up the stairs from ?
Congrats!!! We painted it! HERE- http://nestingwithgrace.com/front-porch-spring-reveal-with-painted-steps/
Do the 4 ft. trees fit inside the round planters that you have listed? How do you secured them?
Also, it looks great! I love everything about it 🙂
Everything looks beautiful! Your street library is ADORABLE!
So cute!!! Love it all 🙂
Its never too early to decorate for Christmas in my opinion! LOL Love your pink door and that basket is so perfect. Your décor always looks great no matter what you are decorating – you do a wonderful job. Thanks for sharing where you purchase each item too – very helpful to the rest of us.
hey girl- love the house! so pretty!
Oh my gosh I love it all!!!! I’m going to attempt the garland around the door this year. So sweet!!! Where did you get the snow covered mini trees on the porch? They’re so cute!!
Thank you!! I have had those for a couple years- they were king of Christmas! wwww.kingofchristmas.com
OMG! The front door of your house is pink, I love it.
