This is one of my favorite DIY projects that I did a few years ago for a friends shower. I needed a little favor for 30 people and wanted it to be part of the decor. I came up with these simple glass cake pedestals that we put a little cupcake on each. They were such a hit I wanted to share them as a great easy DIY gift idea that will only cost you a few dollars. Best thing is they are useful all year long!
I found little glass cups without handles and glass plates that would be a good match in scale. Both were at a second hand store for less than a dollar each. These are items that I see all the time at second hand stores. I attached the plate to the upside down cup with Gorilla Glue.
When you apply the glue go around the rim, try not to apply too much glue. It should dry nice and clear and you won’t see the glue when it is dry as long as there isn’t a lot of extra.
It was fun to give these glass cake pedestals as gifts. All of them were so unique depending on the cup and plate I found. All of my friends were excited to display them in their home and use everyday.
Cake pedestals make great risers to add height to your displays. I used one here on my kitchen table center piece. The pedestals look good from all angles, that is important to keep in mind when doing a center piece on any table.I wrapped some oranges and apples on top of the glass cake pedestal with cello wrap for a healthy Christmas gift. I am going to give these to my healthy friends. Tie a little lace around it and it looks extra fancy, know one will ever know that it cost you only a few dollars.
Loved it then and love it now!!! So cute.
Awe thanks Rach!! I love seeing your comment pop up. xoxox
