Ashley from House of Five recently made over her sons bedroom, and it stopped me in my tracks. I had to ask her to share it with us! I asked Ashley how she came up with the design idea for this darling "Americana" themed bedroom. She said that her husband is a prior service Marine and is currently enlisted in the Army National Guard. He has been in the military as long as she has known him and they have gone through several deployments. They are a military family through and through. When they found out that their second child would be a boy Ashley knew she wanted an "Americana" themed room to ... Read More
How to pick the right size rug
One question I get asked often by clients is "do you really put a rug over carpet?" My answer is always a resounding yes! It ties the room together so your furniture isn't "floating" in the space. And then the next question is "what size should I do?" I have learned over the years that going bigger the majority of the time is better. I was searching on Instagram and came across wood doors from White Shanty and fell in love with their style. They aren't your typical rustic "barn" door look. I found a classic style door and we are thrilled with the look in the space. As you can see we fit a lot into one little room. We actually had to have the sofa taken apart at an ... Read More
Family Room with Wallpaper and Chalkboard Wall
We recently updated our upstairs family room with new wallpaper, lighting, rug and a barn track door. If you have been following my blog you know that our home is a 1200 square foot Cape in Connecticut. The previous home owners used this space as a master bedroom. When I was deciding how we would use the home I knew I couldn't take a large room like this for our master bedroom. Now living in the home for over a year, I am completely happy with the decision to turn it into our family room, this room gets used a lot! It also doubles as a guest room, the sofa pulls out into a sleeper. Before I ... Read More
