3 Storage Solutions for Open Shelves and The Home Depot Sale

We have open shelves in our drink room that really have to not only look good, but serve as storage. Hindsight closed cabinets might have been better here. But then I wouldn’t be able to have plants, and this room does get a lot of natural light. I wanted to make these shelves function better for our drinks and supplements. So I ordered baskets for storage and hooks to hang mugs on. Thought I would share the simple changes and a few items on sale with The Home Depot!

Tip #1- Hang Mugs to Save Shelf Space–

We had mugs taking up space in our cabinet in our kitchen. Decided to donate majority of them and only keep 8 of them that matched our decor!
I measured the width of the shelf then use a piece of painters tape to make a template. Important to make sure they are perfectly straight in front of each other, I used a level for that.
I used a 1-1/4″ mug hook, this drill, and a 1/6″ drill bit to hang the mugs.

Tip #2- Use Baskets as Storage on Open Shelves

I found these Square Baskets for a great price, and 25% off right now at The Home Depot. Perfect size for so many areas. I like how sturdy they are.
I put tea in one basket, and supplements in the other baskets.

Tip #3- Take Advantage of Floor Space and Use Bins

Use decorative bins for dog food, or extra storage. Use floor space instead of cabinet or counter space to save space.
We bought these storage enamel bins (set of two and 15% off) when we lived in Connecticut for outdoor storage. Now we use them for dog food and recycle! They are even safe for outdoors.
