I have been so excited to decorate our fireplace mantel in our family room for Christmas! If you missed it, I shared all the details of our family room on this post. We couldn’t be happier with this space! Now, with all the glowing lights, it makes it that much sweeter. We hosted a family gingerbread house contest and people were hanging out in this space, made me so happy!
You know the saying, “less is more”? Well I think “more is more”! I like to make a statement in certain areas of my home. Not every space is covered with Christmas. Instead I focus on a few key spots. But those key spots are pretty extra! I focused on our mantel and sprinkled a little Christmas decor in the rest of the room.
Our Christmas Tree is the same tree we had in our Connecticut home, I just ordered the 9′ version for this space and kept the 7′ version in our dining room. I used this tree collar to finish it off.
The art, Flocks by Night (over fireplace) is a new Christmas art from her collection, but I do plan on keeping it up past the season!
7 layers of garland! Some of the garland I have collected over the years! If I find a fun garland I always buy 2, knowing it might end up on our mantel. To hang the garland, I just hammer in long nails to each corner and one off center. You won’t even see the nails or the holes. I like to use these big bulb lights. I also mixed in smaller bulbs too.
My green garland is sold out, but this spruce green garland is really similar, I have it in another spot in my home.
Most important is the nativity. I bought this one a couple years ago and still adore it. (Find similar HERE). I remember when I was young my mom would let us play with her nativity, I let Finn play with ours too, that is why I put it low for him to reach.
Bowl of pinecones from the yard, I drop Christmas Spirit Essential oil right on the top for a nice scent. And a stack of Christmas books is a must!
I leave my plants in the room they were in before Christmas made an appearance. I think they look nice with the green Christmas tree and I don’t want to disrupt them too much.
I have had “Lumière” for maybe 15 years! I remember saving up for it. I have always preferred to spend money on home decor over anything else! Are you like that too?
Swapped out the frame tv art for, this festive scene! Yes, the large art is actually our tv. We can see it really well from the sofa’s and in the kitchen.
Luckily I had these 3 cedar wreaths to go here! Made for this spot! I just tapped in a nail to the top of the window frame, a thumbtack works too.
Some of the ornaments on the tree are old. I cut up a garland of ornaments I have had for awhile and hung them separate. Added new disco ball ornaments, because they were too cute! The Black Garland, wood garland, and peace ribbon are the right amount of contrast of textures to the tree.
In each of those little countdown trees I put a paper with a scripture and a task to do each day. We have been doing it for 7 years now and really look forward to that time each night to sit down and focus on Christ, the reason for the season. We hung our countdown on our Christmas tree this year! Kind of nice having it all in one spot.
There is a scripture and an action to go with it. Something small, and sometimes something bigger!

I cannot tell you how much I love your living room and the whole ‘feel’ of it !! I have printed off the Advent list to use too! We do one as well with the Jesus Storybook Bible, but I like having the daily ‘action/response’ you have added. Thank you for inspiring me daily!!
