A Sweet Cottage Inspired Makeover-Floral Wallpaper and Blue Bead Board

We recently did a room makeover for my sweet neighbor Jane, who’s 6 years old. Her room was all white before, and I was so excited to bring in some color and charm!

Jane Room Before-

Here is the before. I didn’t love how the bed was smashed against the curtain and wall, I immediately thought a daybed would be the perfect solution! Also she has a mini kitchen they moved to the playroom (that she never played with according to her mom, but maybe she will now it is in a new place!).

Jane Room After-

Wallpaper and Paint-

We started with blue floral wallpaper full of soft pinks, blues, greens, and yellows. It completely transformed the space into something sweet and whimsical, giving us all the cozy cottage vibes. For the walls, we picked the perfect shade of soft blue, Saratoga Springs by Benjamin Moore that pulled everything together so beautifully.

Bed-

Finding the right daybed turned out to be a bit of a journey. The one we wanted got canceled three times, and another never showed up! So we pivoted and scoured Facebook Marketplace, where I finally found a lovely daybed that we painted a beautiful buttery yellow called Hay from Farrow & Ball. Jane wanted lots of space to play, so a smaller bed was ideal, and now she has the best of both worlds.

Bedding-

We dressed the bed in dreamy floral bedding full of mixed patterns and pillows. Soft, playful, and perfect for a little girl’s imagination.

+Mattress Pad– this is cooling and added extra padding to their mattress…a must!
+Sheets– crisp and cool, not to mention incredibly smooth! Floral Sheet Set comes in three pretty designs and colors and makes a beautiful foundation for the bed.
+Ruffle Floral Quilt– surprisingly not too heavy, adds amazing texture to the bedding look. Darling ruffle border and vintage florals in three colors. Reversing to double your design option
+Floral Duvet Cover with this duvet insert– that duvet insert is my go-to and a must for a fluffy bed!

Art-

I created a gallery wall above the bed with pieces I thought Jane would love.

A sweet pink ballerina, a thrifted mirror and this Daisy candle sconce I thrifted in Paris! We use these led candle tapers.

Swan with flowers Art and a beautiful blue art print that reads “She Found Herself in the Wild.” It turned out so charming and personal.

Rug-

On the floor, we layered in a floral blue and cream rug that pulls everything together.

We added a cozy new chair also found on Facebook Marketplace. (Round pillow).

Side Table-

We also made a small but important adjustment with the side table. Since Jane is still little, we pulled it to the front of the bed rather than keeping it beside the taller side. It’s so much easier for her to reach her water or turn off her darling blue lamp after reading at night this way. Comfort and accessibility always matter, especially in a kid’s room!

And of course, a diffuser, a must-have in every room makeover for that calming bedtime scent can become a comforting part of the evening wind-down or something fresh and cheerful during the day.

Dresser-

Jane’s existing dresser stayed, but we added a mirror above it so she can see herself while getting ready.

Above that, we installed a whimsical floral lamp for extra light and personality. It was a hardwired lamp that Kevin turned into a plug-in!

We also got a little creative when it came to hanging the pendant light above the dresser. I really wanted it to arch over the mirror but it wasn’t long enough to hang directly from the ceiling and I really didn’t want to see the cord. So I thought of the perfect solution, we installed a shelf bracket! It gave us the perfect angle.

Light-

We also swapped out the overhead light for a statement chandelier with a beautiful lampshades that adds a little “wow” every time you walk in. We even added a dimmer switch, because I truly believe every overhead light needs one, it makes the space feel so much more cozy!

This space is now colorful, joyful, and full of personality. Just like Jane!
