Well we decided that we REALLY are banquette people. With our remodel going on we could decide what type of people we are, banquette people or regular chair people. And we are 100% the people that want a sofa in your kitchen. Anyone watch the movie The Holiday just to see the homes? Even the kitchen in the LA home felt very cozy because they had fabric in the kitchen with a cozy settee. Not everyone can have a banquette in their kitchen but there are ways to make it extra cozy. Texture is everything!! And inspiration is everywhere.
The Holiday Cottage House– Love the fireplace in the kitchen of the London home, small and charming. And then notice how the LA home is maybe 4 times the size but still feels very cozy. It isn’t much looking at the photos, but as you see the kitchens in action in the movies, you can feel the cozy.
I also like the kitchen and entire home from the movie Its Complicated. What is your favorite home in a movie??
This is what our kitchen looks like right now…YIKES! But I will say it has been nice to live in it with a folding table, we got a sense of the scale of the table we want in our kitchen. All the cabinets, stove and fridge will no longer be there. that space will be our seating area. The window will also be double the size.
Love this inspiration photo from @amberinteriors long dining table, banquette seating and black chairs
Here are the kitchen tables we are considering-
Wood Oval Table // Metal Table // Cement Top Table // Marble Oval Table // Gold Base Table // Wood Top Table Metal Legs // White Washed Table
What table is your favorite? Our floors will be a light washed wood, cabinets are white with some wood accents. I am leaning to #1 or #2! Best tip if you are trying to decide on a kitchen table size- tape it out or set up a card table to try it!!
They are all nice tables but for me the less legs to get in the way the better. Sometimes the way the table legs are positioned can keep you from fitting in another person around the table.
so true!!!
Yes totally!!! Table 1, 5, and 7 might all have “leg issues” and maybe even table 2 as well. Table 2 may not allow for pushing in the chair further if you needed to. I love your current table so I’m gonna go with #4.
If price is an issue, which I’m pretty sure it isn’t, I’d go with #2 since it’s one third the price. It’s a little difficult to decide until I see how the rest of the kitchen turns out. You’ll make a great choice.
P.S. I liked the kitchen in the movie Somethings Gotta Give.
The Holliday houses are just equally perfect !
I’ve always liked the Madera table from Article.
oooohhhh number 2 would look great with the design you described. I’m so excited to see it all finished!
I agree and I would add as many windows as the design will allow!
I love the California houses in “this is 40” and Reese Witherspoon’s house in “big little lies.” And I love the New England house in “Marley and Me.”
Love the artisan homey feel of table #1
I agree with having enough room all around under the table to seat extra people and to tuck all the chairs under the table. Table #2 does not allow for that with the crossbars at the ends. To me, table #1 seems busy and heavy and very full of legs. I like the simplicity and usability and durability of the top of table #4. I also like the looks of table #6 and how easily it would seat people but am not sure how well the wooden top would hold up. In the photos, it also seems exceptionally long.
You can be sure of one thing: we will all be watching carefully for which table you finally do pick! ; )
Love all the dining table options, ki da makes me wish I had waited to purchase our new table. You found some great ones! My favorite all time home in a movie is Practical Magic, 2nd favorite is the home in Bewitched.
I loved the Somethings Gotta Give house! And love table #3!
I like table #1. I think the wood and style of this table would be pretty with white cabinets.
I love 3!!!
every movie kitchen you mentioned is directed by Nancy Meyers, google her! she’s infamous for her dreamy sets!!!!
Thank you!!!!
My all time favorite house on a movie is the one on Somethings Gotta Give with Diane Keaton and Jack Nickelson. It makes me happy!
I love table 2 but I alsoI have a very long banquette with pullout drawers. The drawers may be a challenge to access. I actually have table #4. Pros: makes it much easier to access your drawers. I do not use the drawers daily but still it would be a challenge and pain having a table with legs etc. Just FYI the faux marble table is very heavy 300 pounds ish. So its not easy to move. I got mine at Wayfair. Otherwise,I love the table and with the oval shape we have the ability to seat so many at the table.
I would avoid anything with an oval top – that means the table is going to be curving away from those seated in the corner and end areas of the banquette.
good point!
