I love being able to connect with my blog readers, and sometimes it leads to meeting in person. Robin and I were messaging back and forth on Instagram, she was looking for ways to support her sons wellness, who was getting sick all the time. Found out she lived around the corner from me so I dropped her off some oils and a diffuser. She gave me a tour around her home. I snuck a picture of her master bedroom, and told myself I would be back to makeover her bedroom. This time of year I especially love being able to give the gift of comfort and safety. Plus it is a gift that will last all year!
Robin recently moved from Connecticut from Texas after a pretty traumatic divorce. I know how hard it is to be a mom, and I can’t imagine doing it alone and in a new place. I told Kevin about Robin and we agreed to give this sponsored post to her. We partnered with The Company Store to pick out any of their great bedding for Robin. So I put together a quick design plan, a must before you buy anything!!! We wanted to do this SPEEDY so Robin would be set up for Christmas.
Bedroom BEFORE-
Robin works from home, which is great. The only room in the house with a door is the bedrooms and her bedroom is really big, so it can double as the office. But she does conference calls and really didn’t want the bed to be seen. She thought the only spot for her desk was on the main big wall. Well, we came up with a new plan where the bed wouldn’t be seen when she worked. But rather than “work” be the focus when you walked in her bedroom “relaxing” is the focus- the bed!!!
Bedroom After-
The gorgeous bedding is from The Company Store and totally inspired this room! The velvet floral duvet is even more gorgeous in person!!!! All of my recent bedding is from The Company Store, I love all the options. I ordered her our same flannel sheets, but in gray, they are so soft and cozy.
Robin was really touched that we did this for her, she is the sweetest!!!! Giving the gift of a good night’s sleep is one of the best gifts! The Company Store makes it easy to make the holidays even more memorable with their exclusive collection. Explore their sheets and bedding sets, holiday throw blankets, and more to make the perfect gift. Read to the end to shop the post!
I ended up giving Robin the two blush linen pillows I had from The Company Store (they sold out, but I linked similar below). I have the other two, so we can be pillow sisters! When shopping for for bedding I always shop by materiel. Linen and velvet are favorites! They look so rich mixed with cotton too. Texture really makes the look.

If you follow me on Instagram you saw I found the nightstand above for $20 at Goodwill! I would say it is an upgrade from cardboard!! We just spray painted them in Rust-Oleum Chalk Paint (Chalked Linen White Ultra Matte Spray Paint). We did lightly sand the larger nightstand, but in the past I typically don’t sand at all. Then we did seal them in Rust-Oleum Chalked Matte Clear Spray Paint (highly recommend sealing).
The large vase on the left I found at Goodwill for $3!!!
Best of all the view of the gray wall and plants is what you see when Robin is on a conference call! She could even put a bookcase on that wall by the window so it looks like she is in an office!
And one of the biggest changes we did was add board and batten to the wall behind the bed. You can really find any tutorial on this on Pinterest, so I didn’t do a tutorial. BUT I will say that we almost didn’t do the board and batten wall because the baseboard molding and the crown molding is at an angle. All Kevin did was used his saw and did a mitered edge. You can see in the photo below how good it looks. Then he filled in the gaps with caulk.
Walls are painted in Gray from Benjamin Moore (same color as our master bedroom- yes, it is just called “gray”)
Robin teared up and was very thankful for this bedroom makeover. I am thankful to have met her and to be able to bless her with a cozy place to relax! I received the nicest email from Kelly. I am sharing it below, in hopes it will inspire you to find ways to “fill a need, when you see a need.”
Hi Brooke,“I follow you on Instagram and I love your style. You inspire me on a daily basis. I am just emailing you to tell you how wonderful it is to see you doing the makeovers for people who might have some needs. I am referring to your recent post on doing a bedroom makeover for your neighbor around the corner. You mentioned you are going to provide a bed for her. I just wanted to say I know how grateful she will be. After my parents divorced when I was 11 my mom did not have a bed to sleep on. She made sure my sister and I had beds until we could get one for her. She was sleeping on the couch until a friend’s family heard about it and gave us a bed. Your post brought back that memory and I just wanted to say you are such a thoughtful person and not only do you inspire me to own my own style but you also inspire my heart with your kindness. Thanks. Just thanks. Kelly”

What a beautiful transformation Brooke!! I love that you set your intention early on and that you live your life with purpose. You make others believe that they matter. You demonstrate the importance of reaching out to others and sharing your knowledge and the gift of time.
thank you so very much for these kind words!
that is beautiful in sooooo many ways!!! what a good person you are!
Awesome transformation? What paint color did you use on the wall behind the bed? Thanks!
It is called Gray from Benjamin Moore! Easy to remember:)
It turned out gorgeous!!! AS ALWAYS!!!
Brooke, your thoughtfulness is inspiring. I also love how quickly you can come up with a vision and then execute it – on a budget. It really is inspiring. I would love to be able to help others like this. What a dream!
I love the wooden bowl on the clover nightstand. Do you remember where you got it? Thank you, Paula
thank you!!! That wood bowl was from Target!!!
This is absolutely SO beautiful and cozy! This story had me teary eyed! What a gift your family has been to her!
Absolutely beautiful! This story had me teary eyed as well. What a wonderful gift for her. Bless you and your husband for all that you do 🙂
I want to do this for people! *all the feels* What an awesome platform God has given you!
I feel really lucky to be able to do this!
Brb- sobbing! This is beautiful, and ditto what Kelly said. xoxo
ahhhhh, It was beautiful what she said!!
Love this wall! Wondering if you think the board and batten can be on a textured wall or if it would look funny?
Thanks!!
yes! It would totally work!
How do I determine how far apart to put my boards if I do a board and batten wall?
Well we planned it based on the wall size- but I like around 20″
What a lovely thing to do! Seeing a mattress on the floor always tugs at my heart, because everyone deserves a decent bed. This is a beautiful gift from two beautiful souls. Merry Christmas!
thank you!!! I am with you on that.
Hi!! You purchased the little pink camper art print at Target and included it in your gorgeous blog post. The print is my work and I’d love to share on my Instagram page. Would that be ok? 🙏🏻💓
we love it!! yes!!
Absolutely beautiful and such a kind thing to do! I would love to see a blog post on how Kevin spray paints thrift store furniture. I’m always hesitant to use spray paint on a flat surface for fear it will turn out splotchy, but his spray painting always looks perfect!
thank you!!!
Hi Brooke! I love love love this room! I have begun to redo my bedroom based on many aspects of this room. (Purchased the sketch of the lady and the mirror already) Lol! I have been wanting to do board and batten behind my headboard for a while. Would you be able to tell me how wide each of the upright boards are you used? I looked at our HD at their MDF primes boards and they have a 2.25” wide and 3.5” wide. However, the 2.25” wide ones are only 6 feet tall. The wider ones are maybe 16 feet. What kind of wood did you use and was it already primed? I see tutorials using different widths and wood types and don’t know which to use? Thanks so much!!
Hi! We did the 2.25″ boards! they were 8’…..
Brooke,
Thank you so much! We ended up purchasing our boards from Menards. They were primed MDF and were 8 feet long and 1x3s, which are 2.5” wide. Our top beam going across is 1×4. These 1×3’s at Menards are under $2 each for 8’ long!! Awesome! We just got the wall done. I just need to caulk and paint yet. I’m going to try the “BM Gray “paint. I hope it won’t be too dark. I bought the arched mirror and it just doesn’t stand out on white wall. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I can’t find the link for the bed, I know you shared it on your stories a couple weeks ago but would love it again! Thanks and Happy Holidays 🙂
Happy holidays! Here you go- https://rstyle.me/+vUVTlqwnLKdoEFIKilMQzg
Once again your decor vision has come to life! It warms my heart to follow you on your makeovers for others 🥰. On a side note, can you please share the link for the bed? Happy memories this holiday for you and yours! God Bless.
thank you!!! Here is the bed link- https://rstyle.me/+vUVTlqwnLKdoEFIKilMQzg
Do you ever show a bed makeover where just a duvet is used and not a top sheet and quilt? Trying to make some beds cozy, but we don’t use top sheets, just use the duvet as our primary cover.
You are such a kind and generous person! And create such warm and welcoming spaces. I recall from your stories that the rug was already in this space. Do you happen to know where she purchased it from? Love the colors.
wow! Just wow!!
