This time last year we stayed in Island Park and went to Yellowstone National Park. While we were there we saw a couple cabins that were for sale in Island Park, in hopes of finding one that would be perfect for our family and an Airbnb. We found one! A dream came true to own a cabin on the water. Our plans were to remodel the cabin, while adding onto the front and the back. We had plans drawn up and everything. Well, you know what they say about plans, they can change.

This is awesome! One additional idea: We have friends who have a ski cabin and they included a great feature that works great for them as a family that spends time there (and doesn’t want to haul EVERYTHING each trip) They also rent /Airbnb out the cabin to others. They built each room with two closet accesses. One for regular guests and then a lockable door on the second separated closet that they can safely store personal belongings/gear in each bedroom. It works brilliantly!
Smart! Yes, will plan on that!!!
Don’t forget outside outlets for Christmas lights! I can see it now. So exciting
good tip!!
I Love it already!! But my anxiety level is going through the roof right now… all I’m thinking in my head is “ who is going to clean this??” 🤣🤣
ha! Valid!!
I love this so much! My only suggestion would be for the bunk room bathroom – one toilet and one shower for six people could be tricky. What about having two shower stalls and two toilet stalls, and sacrificing the tub? My grandparents had five daughters and built their own home. The girls all had their own bedrooms but with one, large shared bathroom and they had two showers and two toilet rooms, with three sink, and it worked wonderfully! I always thought it was the coolest bathroom.
See if you can find a way to add another toilet that would be accessible say at night for people staying in the bunk area. Maybe by the laundry or somewhere they don’t have to go through another room, like maybe one bathroom has hall access or a small half bath. Because 8 beds and one toilet in case of lots of drinks or maybe someone or more than one person gets sick to their stomach.
On the main floor where the linen closet is by the primary bedroom, it looks like an opportunity for a stacking washer dryer (plumbing is right there) or perhaps a little deeper linen closet space with some drawers on the bottom and doors on the top. Just a couple thoughts. As always I’m sure however it comes together will be an awesome place!!
Great use of space. Looks amazing. Can’t wait to follow along. It will be beautiful !
I never really comment, but love your style and posts. I came to your site to go to a Thieves link…
But was totally distracted when I saw ISLAND PARK! We live in SC, but fell in love with Island Park
when we visited in 2023. Best place to stay when visiting Yellowstone and Grand Teton! We entered
Yellowstone from the NE entrance before exiting West and going back daily from that entrance.
If you haven’t been, take the Beartooth Pass (breathtaking) and visit Red Lodge, MT. I may totally
be preaching to the choir and telling you to do something that you have done many times, living in the West 🙂 IDK…
Anyway, Utah is on our radar for next year! Thank you for a great site! All the best to you.
