My friend April, who is also our neighbor text me to see if I could look at her dining room and her idea for box trim molding. I happily went to look at it and loved the idea, then told her about dining chairs I had just found on FB Marketplace, how they would be perfect! Then I said, actually, can I just help do it?? And I just now remembered the first time I went to April and Matt’s house, I noticed their dining room and thought then, (two years ago) how fun it would be to decorate, and now here we are. I put together a plan and we got started!

Dining Room Before-

This home was built in 1986, and April and Matt have lived here for about 8 years. They added wood floor to the main living areas, and remodeled the kitchen. The dining room was next on the project list. It had “great bones” good starting off point, love the fireplace!
Dining Room After-

Here is the after! April and Matt aren’t afraid of moody paint colors, they have a dark blue mudroom, and we just did their bathroom with a bold pink wallpaper. So in the dining room we went with a dark and moody green. My inspiration for the room is actually the painting of April’s grandma.

There she is, Grandma Hazel. When April showed me her, it was an immediate yes, she belongs in the dining room! And I was also slightly jealous she has such an amazing family heirloom.
Boxtrim Molding-

We installed box trim around the room. We, meaning April and Kevin did it all. This look is so simple and elegant. Though installing is not simple, the main thing is you have to be good at math. Just kidding! April planned it out perfect. Basically she took the length of the wall and we decided on how many boxes would look good with their 9′ ceilings.

Once you figure out your plan, it’s time to see that math come to life! All the pieces were cut with a miter saw at a 45 degree angle. Your final look is just like a picture frame.

We used a laser to help keep our boxes straight. Kevin and April used a Brad Nailer to install the trim.
Paint-

We got three different paint samples to try. Hidden Falls from Benjamin Moore, Yorktown Green from Benjamin Moore and Crisp Romaine from Benjamin Moore. We ended up going with the first one, Hidden Falls from Benjamin Moore in a Satin sheen.

After we calked all the trim pieces and let those dry, we painted the entire room Hidden Falls from Benjamin Moore, in satin. The ceiling and base boards are painted in Simply White from Benjamin Moore.
Light Fixtures-

Ok, ok…these Sadie Lantern Lights tho???? I can’t even handle them. They are jewelry in this room!!! Icing on the cake. The star of the show. They had a spot for one chandelier, but never added one, we ended up adding two lights here. You know the saying, “two is better than one!” and that is accurate for here.

Dining Table and Chairs-

The dining table I found on Facebook Marketplace, but sadly it sold to someone else. So Matt and April ended up buying a new one, we loved it so much and thanks to FB Marketplace I was introduced to it! I really like how it it a light wood, the gold accent on the base and a modern look, which balances out the vintage finds.

The wood dining chairs I did find on FB Marketplace too, and April was able to buy and pick up before they sold! Set of six chairs for $200 and truly one of a kind! Here is your reminder to always check FB Marketplace.

We had the Velvet Dining Chairs in our dining room table for about a month, they just weren’t the right green for us. Lucky for April and Matt, they are the right green for them, so we moved them over here, thankfully we can visit them hopefully eat another one of April and Matt’s delicious cooking!

I wanted to add a pop of read on the dining table, and an easy way to do that is with plants or flowers! I bought this amazing ruffle vase specifically for this spot, and potted some Caladium right inside. Every dining room needs candle sticks (I shopped my house for those) and my favorite battery operated candles. The platter I also had and layered some real artichokes here for a touch of green.

Rug-

I had originally wanted this rug for their dining room, but it takes a little longer to get in. I ended up finding this rug, after searching for an affordable vintage looking rug. Very happy with it!!! I went with a 9×12 rug in here and it has that pop of red that was needed.
Art-

There is grandma Hazel again, the inspiration! The rest of the art I thrifted, but the Love Birds and this framed quote “I wonder”.

This tapestry looks like it was made for this room! It is actually printed on paper, but looks like a vintage fabric tapestry.

My friend, Lindsay Letters is the creator of this Vintage Swan (nesting15 for 15% off). I text her looking for something unique to go over their fireplace and this was one of the ideas she sent over! I told her I wanted something lighter and that had a vintage feel. It is perfect. The decor on the fireplace I either thrifted or shopped my home for, knowing they would be perfect here.

Curtains-

The floral curtains complete the vintage feel of the room. I love how they are tone on tone with the wall, but you can see the slight pop of color.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!!! You can see April and Matt’s bathroom makeover HERE and their daughter Elle’s bedroom HERE.

So many thing to love . Chandeliers and paint choice plus curtains do it fior me. Gorgeous 😍
I want to be your friend and neighbor! Beautiful!
