I have been making this recipe since I was a teen. I got it from our neighbor, Susan Davis. It is actually in our church recipe book, which I hang onto for this recipe only! I decided to put it on a blog post, so we can always have it. Plus, the church recipe book was missing ingredients in the instructions, so I was always having to remember to add the flour and oatmeal, now there is no confusion (ha!). This will be your go-to peanut butter bar recipe!!! We took it to our New Years Eve party and two of my friends already text for the recipe, so here you go.
Look at these yummy bars! The base has a nice crunch to it, and the peanut butter flavor…SO GOOD!
You’ll first mix all your wet ingredients together well, and then add the dry ingredients. My mom just got this nice silver mixer.
The dough shouldn’t be crumby but also not sticky. Should have the same texture as a cookie!
We like to spread the dough out on a large sheet pan and then press down with a fork. Doesn’t stick to the fork! We use this non stick pan but you can spray your pans first or put down parchment paper, then spray paper with a nonstick spray. Put your pan in the preheated oven, keep an eye on them around 12 minutes. You want them to be slightly brown. So depending on your oven cooke them for 13-15 minutes.
Right after you pull the bars out, sprinkle your chocolate chips all over the cooked dough. Put back in the oven, keep the oven door open, for 1 minute.
Spread the chocolate while hot and melted. Let cool.
While the bars cool, make your peanut butter drizzle. If you need to add more milk, do it. You want it to be runny enough you can drizzle over bars but not too runny it won’t hold its form. I like to set a sandwich size bag inside a cup and scoop the frosting into the bag.
Then clip bag corner to mange how much you can drizzle over the chocolate. Drizzle away, you can’t go wrong here.
The recipe for the peanut butter frosting makes more than you need, don’t feel like you have to use it all.
Each pan makes about 24 servings, plus they are so quick to make. Easy, tasty dessert!
Peanut Butter Bars
Ingredients
Peanut Butter Bars
- 1 cup Butter
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 2/3 cup Peanut Butter
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 cups Oatmeal
- 2 cups Flour
- 12 oz Chocolate Chips
Frosting
- 1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 1/4 cup Peanut Butter
- 1/4 cup Milk
Instructions
- Cream together butter, peanut butter, sugars, eggs, and vanilla.
- Stir in baking soda, salt, oatmeal and flour. Mixture will be thick, stir until well combined.
- Spread on non-stick cookie sheet (I use an 11"x20" pan).
- Bake at 350° for 13-15 minutes (I bake for 13 min on middle rack).
- Once out of the oven, cover with chocolate chips, place back in oven (leave oven door open) for 1 minute until chocolate is melted, then spread.
- Make frosting by combining powdered sugar, peanut butter and milk, mixture will be runny, not a normal thick frosting. I put in a ziplock bag, cut the end then pipe over the top in a plaid pattern.
- Once cooled drizzle with frosting and enjoy!
We hope you enjoy these Peanut Butter Bars as much as we do! Take them to your next party, you won’t regret it.
