Simple Ways to Add Fall Decor- Our Fall Family Room

I have something to tell you. I hung bats in my entry, and I took them down the next day. Maybe it’s just me, but typical seasonal decor like that overwhelms me. Instead, I hung them on my exterior door, they don’t bother me outside with my fall porch! My approach for interior seasonal decor is to keep it simple. Often I will move something and replace it with something I already have for the season. And you can really call anything seasonal decor based on a color or feeling you want to create in your home for the season. I just swap things around my home. Or, I like to call it “shop my home”. See what I added for cozy fall decor in our family room….

Ways to Change your Home Seasonally-

Seasonal Decor Tip #1- Cut Branches for a Vase

**Cut a Large Branch for a Vase-** One of my FAVORITE things to do is cut branches for a big statement in a vase. I had these two natural vases in another room that looked great without any branches. I moved them to our big family room fireplace and cut several branches from our yard and it transformed the fireplace!

Seasonal Decor Tip #2- Use What You Have, Swap Art and Mirrors

**Move Art Around and Mirrors-** I swapped this gold mirror with the flocks by night art that was over our fireplace. I love that I didn’t have to buy anything new to make a big change!

We did add two new pieces of art here. I felt it made this wall feel like part of the room and cozy it up. Something I like to consider when looking at art is if there is more than one spot it could go in our home. Makes it feel like less of a commitment if I know I can use it in more than one place. (I did swap my TV art, that is a Frame TV with the large black background and branch art!) Oh and I did add her to fill in the dead space under the tv.

Seasonal Decor Tip #3- Add a Blanket

**Add a Blanket-** Drape a blanket over the back of a sofa or on the arm of a chair, to change the look for the season! I hung this Wool Plaid Blanket on the back of our sherpa chairs, such pretty colors and added some contrast. Those blankets are new, but I plan on using them for outside too!

Seasonal Decor Tip #4- Use Seasonal Books as Decor

**Basket of Seasonal Books-** I put seasonal books away in a cupboard or pack away with seasonal decor. It is the most fun to bring them out each season, they feel like a gift! I love a stack of books for simple coffee table decor. Love this basket for books or magazines.

PS- one of my favorite kids books is Tiny Perfect Things, the illustrations are gorgeous.

Seasonal Decor Tip #5- Paint Something the Color of the Season

**Paint Something-** I painted the planter that holds my Kangaroo Plant. It was a light pink, it needed some depth here and charcoal was the perfect contrast. I already had the charcoal paint leftover from a project. Painting something is an affordable way to change the look for the season of a front door, frames, boxes, planters and more!

Seasonal Decor Tip #6- Change a Lamp Shade

**Change a Lamp Shade-** I am slightly obsessed with lamps and now fabric lamps shades. Unique lamp shades can be expensive, so recommend looking for a thrifted lamp base to balance the cost. I paired this lamp shade with this simple black lamp base. Love the combo and the colors work with our room year round.

I did buy this log holder to add to our fireplace. Felt very fall to have logs out, even tho our fireplace is a gas fireplace 😉.
