We shared that we are expecting a few month ago HERE. We are over the moon excited. It took us longer than we thought with our third baby. I was contemplating not finding out the gender of this baby. My husband on the other hand had other plans…and once he put his into action it required that he make up for it with cake!
We actually did the new blood test at our doctors office. It tests for a lot of different things about the health of the baby along with telling you the gender of the baby as early as 10 weeks. We did the test and I was unsure if I would have them tell me what the gender was. I didn’t like the idea of finding out over the phone without anyone around me. It felt anti climatic. I decided that we should just wait and see at the ultra sound and my husband totally supported that decision, so I thought….
It had been close to two weeks from taking the blood test and we still had not gotten a call. My husband, Kevin said that he was going to call and make sure everything was ok. I got a text from him before I went to the gym saying “I called the doctor and the baby is totally healthy according to the blood test. I told them I didn’t want to know gender and if you change your mind that you should give them a call.” Big relief to know that everything was ok, I know that is not always the case. After the gym I got another text “I couldn’t wait…I know what we are having….” then silence. I was shocked that he actually knew! I called him right away and he was beyond excited and giggly like a little kid. I knew right then without him telling me what it was. I told him not to tell me over the phone, and that he needed to get a cake and have the inside be color specific to what the gender was for the girls and I to cut into that night. I still wanted that big event of finding out what it was, even if he already knew.
So that is what he did. Brought us home a cake. The outside was cream and the inside would tell us what our new little baby was! Either I would be spending a lot of money buying new boy clothes or unboxing and enjoying all of our favorite girl clothes again for the third time.
Yep…it was totally a BOY! I am still in shock that we get to add a little boy to this family of girls. I feel extremely fortunate and so excited. My youngest who is five, talks to my tummy and kisses it hourly. And my oldest who is 7 can’t wait to play soccer with him.
When we got to Utah for Christmas I had my sister make a cake for our family. She is the best little cake baker. And she was pretty sad that she couldn’t make our first one for us. Any occasion to eat one of her cakes we will not pass up!
I can’t believe how easy frosting this cake was after I saw her do it. I had made one of her cakes for my daughters birthday and it tasted fantastic but didn’t look as professional as this one. If I would have known how simple it was to create I would have copied this!
The trick is that little frosting tool she has. You can find one HERE. And probably a little practice. But the nice thing is that if you mess up just smooth it out and start over!
She used a pipping bag you can find HERE and did a little dot of frosting starting at the bottom after she had lightly frosted the entire cake.
Next she flattened the dot of frosting with her little tool. Then did the next little dot right by the other one. And started a row above the last one. See how simple that is?
She printed the bunting banner that she found from THIS website that offers a free printable. She used paper straws to connect the twine together.
Of course it tasted as good as it looks. She uses a raspberry filling in the center from real raspberries. I shared her recipe below. Pin it for the next cake you make, you won’t regret it!
Congratulations on your pregnancy and finding out that it is a boy! How exciting… now you’ll have the perfect little family! :o)

I am “sort of” a new reader to your blog, though I think I subscribed awhile back. Your GIRLS are beautiful and your home is awesome!! You take care of yourself and that “Little Me” to be. (I am o l d, but I loved Little Me baby clothes. My son will be 39 years old on June 11. I have almost ten years between Matt and my daughter Ali who turned 29 on Ground Hog’s Day!
Back to your house>>the before and after of the outside is so beautiful. You have so much curb appeal now.
I am a fan. I will be sure to watch when you have ‘hatched’!
