9 Year Old Finn’s Bedroom with a Gecko and Guinea Pig

Finn’s bedroom has been the room that has basically stayed exactly how I styled it when we moved in after our remodel 3 years ago. Still love it all! We call it the “green grass room” because it had green carpet when we bought this 1970’s home. We kept the rug green as a sweet reminder to what it was and his comment.

Finn Bedroom Before-

Finn's Schoolhouse bedroom-Utah Ranch House — You can tell they had major style when this room was designed! Bold and full of color, which I love. But it hadn’t been changed since 1970, it was time. We picked this room for Finn because it is a good size (about 13’x11′), has great lighting, and is by our bedroom.

Bedroom After-

The walls are painted in Farrow and Ball Off- Black, in a matte finish. Since we had a painter, he did match it to where he regularly get’s his paint. I did have a sample I gave him. You can find samples here. When you match paint it isn’t going to be exact, but I do love how it turned out. The trim and ceilings are All White, again from Farrow and Ball. We recently added the Lion art, about 45 years ago, my Dad colored it in with Artex paint as a gift for my mom on their first anniversary. It has been sitting in their storage room, so I asked if we could have it for Finn and had it re-framed, my parents were so happy to see it given new life.

We LOVE his bed! It is a full size, there were several reasons why I went with a full, I wanted him to have enough room on the floor to play with his toys and plenty of space for two nightstands.

As far as Finn’s bedding goes, we have had this gray air quilt for over 3 years, still looks so good! We started with this mattress, then cooling mattress pad, stripe sheets, gray air quilt, plaid duvet with this organic duvet insert. Finished off the look with this mustard pillow cover with a down pillow insert and, stripe throw blanket at the end.

We recently added this woven cabinet to Finn’s room, we moved it from our bedroom. He needed more storage and it looks great in here! I linked similar options HERE.

Finn enjoys playing basketball, we aded a basketball hoop to the back of his door, he uses it often!

If you missed it, we hung these cork board strips on the back of his door. Finn has so many cute projects he brings home, so in an effort to not have hundreds of pieces of art taped to the wall, this was a great option!

And meet Finn’s newest pet, Shirley the Guinea pig. We put her cage on a short little table, it works great.

He is a big lover all animals!

On this side of the room we have this dresser. It has his lizard Sasha, along with a vintage ship light and arch mirror. The chair in the corner I have had since Ella was a baby, it was all the kids rocking chair!

Meet Sasha, she is thriving! He has had her about two years!
