Nesting With Grace

Primary Bedroom Cloud Wallpaper, Terracotta Walls (we tried and failed) Printed Sheets

If you saw on my Instagram, we tried terracotta paint on our primary bedroom walls. I had gotten a paint sample, tried a large section on the wall, and even did a design plan to help visualize it. So we decided to go for the bold terracotta paint on the walls. We had painters painting the girls shiplap ceilings, so we asked them to paint our bedroom too. I didn’t see the room the entire day while they painted. After it was finished….I didn’t love it, but thought maybe I needed to style it. If I was painting it myself I probably would have stopped, and not done the entire room or just done one wall, the one downside to hiring painters. Even after decorating it all, I still wasn’t a fan. So we decided to change it. Chalk it up to a lesson learned!

Primary Bedroom Now-

This is what our bedroom looks like now! I shared below photos of what it looked like when we tried the terracotta color on our walls. We had All White on our walls before from Farrow & Ball, now it is still a neutral, but more of a moody neutral.
We ended up wallpapering the entire room and painting the fireplace and brick. Sharing all the details below.

Bedding-

I did change our bedding about a month ago and never did a blog post. We LOVE it. I think my favorite bedding we have had, really inspired the terracotta wall, then worked even better with the new look.

I swapped this gingham gray rug that was in our basement guest room, for our bedroom. Big fan of this rug!

Terracotta Walls-

Here is is, the Terracotta walls. The color we tried was Rockwood Terracotta, and we did Canyon Clay (which I liked that color the most) on the brick. But after it was on the walls it just felt way too intense. Like it was the only thing I noticed and not the pieces in the room. Also I had never had a color change so drastically from a west to an east wall. I love a moody bedroom and I see other rooms with walls painted Terracotta and I love them, but to actually live in the room was too much (for me).
I really didn’t like the terracotta color on the brick. It is ok to change your mind, and look at it as good practice to learn what we really want. One of you told me it is like paying for a design lesson. Life is too short to not try! Then change again, if you don’t like it!

Brick Wall-

We painted the brick in Romabio Classico Limewash, color Bianco as the base then Nube Gray Limewash over the top. We found the Limewash locally, which you can go to Romabio website to see if a store near you sells it.

Very easy to apply and gives the brick a natural look, rather than a painted brick look, had texture and a flat finish.

Love the painted limewash on the brick with the new wallpaper too.

Fireplace-

On the fireplace we actually did the same exact Limewash we did on the brick, Bianco Limewash and Nube Gray Limewash. Limewash could possibly not stick on on Latex paint or Acrylic paint, it is recommended to use Romabio MicroGrip Primer before using Limewash.
Hard to see in the photos, but the limewash gave the fireplace a lovely texture. I used a paint brush and went back and forth to create a lot of texture too.
Our gas fireplace is this Bayport series.
View from our bed, very cozy in here! That is a Frame TV, over the fireplace, love watching tv in my bed!
Cozy reading corner, I have had that chair and ottoman for close to 20 years! We really don’t sit here often, but sure looks nice. I actually want to have built-ins for either side of the fireplace for clothes storage. We have a small closet, so would love extra space for clothes.

Wallpaper-

I just love wallpaper. Wallpaper adds texture, coziness and character to a room. I thought of wallpaper for our bedroom, but really didn’t love anything for such a big space, until I found this cloud wallpaper. Also wanted to make sure the wallpaper went well with the warm tones we already had with our beams, rattan light fixture and wardrobe cabinet.
I ordered one roll of the cloud wallpaper, to see how it looked in person and decided to go for it. I loved it and I know I won’t get sick of this wallpaper for really long time. It has such pretty movement, almost looks like plaster walls.
 Swapped out the curtain panels for something darker, did three of these light blocking curtain panels on either side, with this curtain rod.
