I have shared my love for bar carts before. I think they are probably one of the greatest piece of furniture to own. They are so versatile. You can style them for everyday use in your home or deck them out for a Christmas or Holiday party. I am pretty over the moon with THIS new bar cart I found from Serena & Lily. I love mixing in different textures and the rattan is one that goes with most any style.
The trick to a well styled bar cart is layers. I broke it down for you on how to style your own bar cart!
#1– Add height- use a vase or a pitcher with some flowers or branches cut from your yard.
#2– Create layers and a variety of levels with a cake plate or a stack of dinner plates how I did on the bottom. I layered two cake plates on top of each other. One holds cups and the other holds our favorite healthy brownies (recipe HERE).
#3– Add texture either with a dishtowel draped over the side or napkins. Another great detail is some sparkling lights, especially at Christmas time. I used THESE and THESE lights that are battery operated- no weird cords hanging off of the side.
#4 and #5– Add color with food and plants. If you are planning on serving from your cart then food will naturally gather to your cart- don’t forget to balance out the bottom with some food too. I repeated the colors that were on the top again on the bottom.
I used my bar cart as a drink and dessert cart for a Christmas Party and we do love this for New Years too. I served my all time favorite Holiday Drink- Peppermint Egg Nog Punch. I have shared this recipe before- but it is that good it needs to be shared again!
All you need is- Ginger Ale, Eggnog, Peppermint Ice-cream, Candy-canes
I make this for dessert at Christmas Parties, I wait to mix it all until we are ready to eat it. Simply pour your Ginger Ale in your punch bowl- for a large party I start by pouring half of the liter in. Then add in about half a carton of Eggnog in, stir those two together. Then I scoop in big chunks of peppermint Ice-cream with the Ginger Ale and Eggnog mixture. You can top with crushed up candy canes or just garnish with one large candy cane coming out of the cup. EASY!
I wanted to show you another way to style and use THIS bar cart everyday in your home.
I created a little spot for our guests to put things when they stay in our guest room behind our sofa in our family room that doubles as a guest room. I shared how I just painted the door HERE.
I found THIS hanging light and hung it from the ceiling (another option HERE ). The light already had a plug, but you can use any pendant light and follow my tutorial on adding a plug to any light fixture HERE.
I styled the bar cart a little simpler in this spot. I stacked an extra throw pillow and blanket on the bottom shelf. Layered a book and a bowl for jewlry and keys on the top shelf. I can easily take away the plant when guests arrive. (The dipped stools are from Serena & Lily you can find them HERE).
Hopefully that gave you some ideas on how to style your bart cart…or it maybe gave you the “wants” for one! Find more of my favorite bar carts HERE.
I love it! I just bought my first bar cart and I’m looking forward to styling it in different ways, right now it’s set up as a hot chocolate bar :o)

How fun and cute for Christmas! You will love it forever!!
That looks great! Where did you find the pink artwork and the white basket the plant is in? Is it woven? Love the cart. I have that floor lamp so the hanging lamp would be perfect. I saw it on the website but wasn’t sure where to put it. Great idea over the cart!
Thank you Donna! The pink art is from target too- their Oh Joy collection. The white basket is from here- https://www.uashmama.com.au
i just found your blog! love it! can i ask about that little deer hoop you have hanging on the wall? it’s so sweet. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that! I think you are referring to the deer plate I have above the bar cart in my kitchen? I found it at Anthropologie:)
Thank you!
