Before the finished photos I wanted to show that setting up this nursery was quite the process as any remodel of a room can be. And sometimes we forget the the process can be so exciting too. I knew that things would get better, although it felt like it wouldn’t. All the boxes we had sitting in our backyard would eventually get opened and pieces put together, in a small house you don’t have a lot of room to shuffle things around.
My little assistant always by my side extremely excited to open all the gifts we were given and to help me “organize” it all. Makes me so happy to see how thrilled she is for this little brother of her’s.
I had everything all ready to go but didn’t want to jump the gun until the wallpaper on our ceiling was finished, the very last step. I am so excited to show you the finished space and that it did actually get done before baby boys arrival with possibly two weeks to spare and here it is…
Our little Cape is a four bedroom home that consists of a master bedroom, a girls bedroom where my two girls share one of the largest rooms, a room we turned into a family room and a nice sized guest room that we have been working on changing to a nursery for our baby boy. I partnered with Wayfair on this transformation, which was a big one so I was happy to have their support and their amazing products. We are thrilled to be welcoming our baby boy soon into this world. We had been trying to have another baby for close to two years and I found out the most unexpected way we were finally pregnant, you can read more about that HERE. As I type this I am exactly 38 weeks. Getting closer and the anticipation of seeing his little face and wondering how it will all happen is just beyond exciting. And another bonus we get to add a boy to the drama of these two girls we already have, you can read how we did our gender reveal HERE.
I wrote all about my inspiration for his nursery HERE. I knew I wanted to do something fun to the room. I had thought about painting the floors but went against that idea knowing I wanted large rugs and they would cover up the painted floor. I ended up layering two rugs. The black geometric rug I had in a different room and thought it would look better in this space. To avoid the room feeling too dark with the ceiling and rug black I layered THIS cream rug from Wayfair. It is it really brightens up the space.
I went with wallpaper on the ceiling for something unique. I searched and searched for the perfect one on Wayfairs website and also looked around on Pinterest. I ended up deciding on THIS wallpaper from Aimee Wilder. The little silver stars and astronauts are perfect on a ceiling and I think he will enjoy gazing at the stars at night.
I love the rocker I decided on. For my first daughter I picked a darling rocker in a pink stripe, it was really fun and luckily I had another girl so I could use it in her nursery too. But I did start to get tired of the stripe. I recently ordered a white slipcover for it and I wished that I had just done white in the first place. I remember that for this rocker and kept it neutral so I could easily move it to different rooms. You can find the rocker HERE from Wayfair. The little Moroccan ottoman will be great to move around to put our feet up when rocking baby. I love the contrast of leather with the black you can find it HERE.
Another DIY project we tackled was painting our previously light pink Jenny Lind crib black. My husband was a trooper and painted ALL of those spindles himself. Seriously an act of love. He said a few times “why didn’t you just order a new crib from Wayfair?” I reminded him that it was sentimental to me to use the same crib for all of our babies and if I was going to buy a new one I would buy the same Jenny Lind style…just in black. I picked Sherwin-Williams Emerald Paint in High Gloss Tricorn Black. I picked it because it meets the most stringent VOC regulations. My husband wanted to spray paint the bed because it would have taken a quarter of the time. Harmony from Sherwin-Williams is another great paint for kids spaces, but it can’t be mixed in darker colors.
I have to say I really love the trend right now of simple bedding. When I had my daughters I ordered a custom skirt, bumpers and sheet. Now the look is just to do a nice sheet, no skirt or bumpers, a lot easier on the wallet too. I have another sheet to switch with this one for those accidents. But I really love the look of THIS sheet from Wayfair.
Did you spot our baby boys name?? Yes the name we picked is Finn! It just felt right. I had read the name Finley in a magazine a long time ago and made a note in my phone. We decided to just go with Finn, because that is what we would end up calling him and it flows nicely with my daughters Ella and Lola. I love these tin letters from Old Farm Creek that I used above the bookcase.
We needed a bookcase to store all our baby books that I had luckily saved from my girls. THIS bookcase is one of my favorites from Wayfair, and the price was really unbelievable. I love to decorate with things we use everyday, like the little Hunter Boots that were a gift from some good friends that their little boy wore once or twice.
I didn’t want a theme nursery. I wanted pieces that looked nice if I moved them around the house individually that I would love anywhere. THIS sign “To the Moon and Back” has been one of my favorites from SugarBoo. I do like the little nod to the astronaut wallpaper.
I added THESE lights you can pick any color of ball to cover the light strands and put them in any order. I did the 48 strand and I picked cream, charcoal and grey. They look so sweet when turned on. I never turn on the overhead light on bedrooms, too harsh so I love the soft accent lighting.
Since we were loosing a guest room we wanted to still have another spot for guests to stay. We do have a sleeper sofa in our family room but we can often have six people at a time, I wrote a post about how we squeeze in our guests HERE. This way we can move our girls down to his nursery and let guests stay in our girls bedroom. I loved THIS daybed from Wayfair. I really wanted a fabric day bed, they are the coziest and also one that had a trundle. I can imagine the girls laying on the daybed and reading while I feed Finn.
His room has two nice sized windows that I love the light they bring in. But I know that he won’t like when he is trying to nap. I picked panels that are blackout to completely block out the light and they really do. You can find the curtain panels HERE from Wayfair.
I added in a lot of different animals, I love them in decor. THIS pillow I got from Wayfair is one I have loved for a long time. It is so well made, and comes with a down fill and linen fabric cover.
The hand made felt elephant was just too darling to not add to his nursery. It is so well made and adds such a charming touch. It is from Heart Felt Creations and she has many other options.
One of my biggest hopes and desires for my children is that they are brave. Brave to stand up for what they believe in, to try new things and to never be afraid to be themselves. I had to have this pennant flag from For The Love Shop.
I had this gold tea cart and moved it into his nursery. I like the contrast of the gold with all the gray and black. I also needed more room for storage. I filled THIS tall stripped basket from Wayfair with extra diapers and wipes. The telescope lamp is one of my favorite elements you can find it HERE from Wayfair.
My sweet friend gave me the white bear and I picked up the green vase at Good Will. I went looking for something with a little touch of green to go with the pops I had added in pillows and art.
This original artwork from Katherine Jury was a big inspiration piece. I love the contemporary style in his room and also the pops of green. I knew I wanted to add touches of that into his nursery. You can shop Katherine Jury’s original art and prints HERE.
I talked about how I made a few changes to this dresser that I got from Wayfair. I added the wheels and changed out the two top knobs to the zebras. You can read more about it HERE.
The drawers even got a little love with the leftover Aimee Wilder wallpaper. I have this thing with lining every drawer with fabric or wallpaper before I can put clothes in the drawers, it helps to complete it in my eyes.
In my home I try to decorate with things we use everyday. I want our home to be a reflection of us and not of a store. I used swaddle blankets on his shelf for easy access and also they are just too sweet to not leave out. I spray painted the locker basket in black and stacked his darling little shoes inside. I used a hook to hang one of my favorite outfits on display and oh man I can’t wait to dress him in it!
I found the Moon art and the Giraffe art on Minted HERE. I love the natural color frame that ties in the bookcase we did in the room and I did the moon in the black frame. They have such great art pieces for kids spaces, I shared some of my other favorites HERE.
Now this little boy can come and sleep in “the coolest room” as my daughters said when they saw it finished. I love that they love it and I know he will too.

Wow, I really love this room, pure perfection! The ceiling is my favorite I think and I love how cozy the room feels. I’m amazed at how much you were able to put into this tiny room.
Tania
Thanks Tania, I love how the ceiling turned out too. There is a lot in this little room for sure:)
Thanks for always saying such nice things
This nursery is so cozy. Lucky Finn!
thank you Kelly for your sweet comment
You are SUCH a talent!! This room is “outta this world!” (I know, I couldn’t resist the pun w/the adorable ceiling!!) I’ve told you before & I say it again, I so love your home & that you show others the possibilities of FANTASTIC decorating even when living in a smaller home! You.Go.Girl!! I’m happy for you that the room is done early & ready for Finn’s arrival (love the name – thought about it waaaay back when w/my own children, but w/my name what it is – well, as you can see, that would’ve gotten a wee bit confusing in our household!). I am just putting the finishing touches on my just turned 18-yr olds room! ha! Oh well…….hopefully he’ll come home a lot to visit to enjoy it after he leaves for college?? Also, one quick question – where did you purchase the cute schoolhouse light for the nursery? Forgive me if I missed that in your posting, I looked twice & looked in search bar, but couldn’t find it. If you have a moment & could tell me – much appreciated! Thinking of you & praying for a wonderful delivery to welcome your beautiful son!
Thank you Lynn! What kind words, you made my day! I really appreciate all your kind words of encouragement.
The light is just actually from Lowes and I spray painted the base black!
Love love love his little room. I need to come take it all in in person.
Love the name! We did just Max. Everyone asks is it short for something. It’s like nope. Just Max!!!
Love “to the moon & back”. That is one of my sayings too!
Love the layered rugs. I attempted to do a layered rug in my entrance but on a much, much, much smaller scale. Mostly to try & save my bigger more expensive rug from the dog & his favorite laying spot ?
And you used the bear! ❤️❤️ It actually does go pretty well in the room.
And the ceiling. Brilliant.
I could go on & on. And on….
yes Sam! You need to come see it. I LOVE the little bear:) you are so sweet I love everything you said and appreciate your kind words my friend!
It looks so cozy and sweet!!!! I love everything you picked out! What a lucky little man… Coolest room in town! Xx
Charlotte, thank you my friend!
I love every little bit of this room!
thank you so much and for your comment!
I love it! It gets me so excited for our little boy that we are expecting the same time as you! He will love that room and you will love loving him in it! Best of luck!
thank you! And congrats!! It is getting so close:)
This room is perfection!!! This little guy is going to be one lucky little brother! Can’t wait to see him in it!!
Thank you so much Kalie! Yes, he will be spoiled by my girls:)
This room is the cutest ever! Any baby or guest would love it. The name Finn is one of my very favorites. I was wondering where you found the mirror over the daybed? Is it black or gray? I love the daybed too. I need an extra place for guests to sleep. You must be so excited. Wishing you all the best.
thank you so much Dona! I have had that mirror for close to 10 years, sorry I cant remember the vendor.
The daybed is SO comfy and it will be great for guests. Thank you for the well wishes!
Love the room! Blessings to you and your family and baby boy Finn! Love the cross/plus blanket, where did you purchase? Looks like the Swiss flag but in grey.
Thank you! I added a link to the bottom of the post with it:) It is so soft!
Oh this turned out so great, Brooke! I absolutely love it!!!!
Thank you Lindsay! We are pretty excited!
What a gorgeous room and simply perfect name!!! Lucky boy!
May I ask the wall colour? We have a similar colour combo in our living room and are looking to repaint.
Blessings to you and your brood 🙂
I wish I remembered the paint, we just used what we had in the house from the previous home owners, I liked it so we went with it.S Simply White from Benjamin Moore is really similar to it. Best of luck!
Absolutely love how you designed Finn’s room! I too am due in 5 weeks and just starting on the decorating process. I hate to bother you on this but have a couple questions of items I saw in your pictures. Can you tell me where you go the throw blanket on the day bed, the arrows in the vase and the hello world wood sign? I am going with a Brave/Adventure theme and those items would be cool with what I have planned. Thank you so much!
Thanks Nicole! The blanket is from an Etsy shop the shaby antler. The arrows are from plain jane home another online shop. And the wood sign was a gift from a friend! Congrats on your up coming arrival!
Love your sons nursery so much! You did such a great job. Can you share the exact link to the pouf? It is linking to all of wayfairs poufs/ottomans. Thank you!!
Thank you very much! I updated the post with the correct link! Thanks for letting me know:)
