With Instagram and Facebook it made me question if birth announcements are a thing of the past? Like writing letters. Everyone knows I had my baby and with the amount I post on my Nesting with Grace Instagram and my personal Instagram. Everyone gets it, Brooke had a baby. But there is something about getting an actual birth announcement in the mail. I feel it is a celebratory occasion, like a wedding. We need to have something printed and documented. I personally love to see as many pictures as possible on a birth announcement and Christmas card for that matter. It might be that we live so far away from a lot of our friends and family. I have to say I am somewhat disappointed when my friends send a Christmas Card with just a photo of their kids or their dog, I want to see everyone! I also really enjoy reading a little message about what they have been up to over the year. So I decided on a birth announcement from Minted based on what I like to get from others.
I took these of Finn. I had read a somewhere “top pictures to take of a baby”. His feet, ears, him yawning, crying and the little details about a newborn that you want to hold onto and remember forever. Sadly they change so quickly. Finn was four weeks old in these pictures.
My sisters came from Utah to meet Finn for the first time, I set up my camera and had one of them shoot some pictures of all of us. I literally thought of it right before they left, so it was a little rushed. My girls wore dresses that they had worn two years ago at their babysitters wedding, they were her flower girls. They are my favorite dresses, they even wore them for Easter this year. I have no shame in repeating outfits. I don’t think that new clothes need to be bought for family pictures, simple and stress free is best. If you have something you love and you know you look good in, why change it? I put Finn in just a simple onesie, timeless and doesn’t distract from the pure beauty of a new baby.
I love newborn photos taken in your own home. It is the easiest and everyone is most comfortable. I have done it with all of my kids and actually all of their baby pictures the first year I had a photographer come to my house.
I was so happy when I received the announcements I ordered from Minted in the mail. They looked so well done. I picked an announcement with a little gold leaf writing and four photos on the front and three on the back with a little blurb about our little Finn Man.
I also ordered stamps with his little face on them, thy are the cutest! It was so handy to have it all come at once and coordinate so well. I had our return address printed on the back of the envelopes, smartest decision, it made sending cards out so fast!
Since I can’t send a birth announcement to all of my readers in the mail. I thought I would share it here with you and what I wrote on the back. Thank you for helping us welcome Finn into this world!
