“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad an sincere hearts.” Acts 2:46
My mom has been on a mission to accomplish that exact scripture.
She found a homemade bread recipe that she loved and made a goal to bake one loaf of bread a day and give it to someone. That alone shows how thoughtful, empathetic, loving and Christ-like she is.
She says “nothing is better than getting a loaf of warm homemade bread.” I couldn’t agree with her more. Think of the last time someone made you homemade bread? I can remember one of my best friends, Rachel baking a fresh loaf of french bread when I had one of my girls along with soup. It was one of the greatest meals that I clearly remember now even 8 years later.
My mom figured out that one loaf of homemade bread cost her 24 cents! Not much money at all, but the time and love she put into it means so much. My mom lives in Utah and came to see our baby Finn be born. She flew from Utah as soon as we told her my water broke and made it all the way to Connecticut in time to see him be born, it was a long labor and I cant believe she made it. She is extremely supportive of everything anyone in the family does including my husband, he is her own. When she came she made loaves of bread to give to people who had helped us when Finn was being born, friends who watched my girls while we were at the hospital.
We found flour sack cloths and wrapped the bread up and gave them away. We found the little honey bears at Home Goods and gave those to some as well.
The bread smells so good and warms up your home. My girls loved it for lunch one day as a peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. One of the families that we gave bread to the little girl took it as her snack at school and made sure to tell my girls, it was really cute.
I had this custom sign made for my mom for Mothers Day from Back Road Signs Company. I loved having something custom made for my mom for mothers day. A favorite quote or saying would also make a great gift for a Birthday or start thinking of Christmas.
Bread Recipe

thank you! Yes try it, so easy and really good!
As I read your story, my heart was so deeply touched. As a single mother of 3, and now 4 grandchildren. A Mother’s heart is such a beautiful gift. A loaf of Bread given away just as Christ did for those in need. A simple gesture goes such a long way and the love that her.24 cent loaf of bread gives as she places in the hands of the recipient is a treasured token of not only her love, but Christs. Thank you for sharing this story❤️ I will certainly be baking her recipe. Love in Christ, Christine
What a kind and thoughtful comment. I loved everything you said. And that is so true, following the example of Christ. You are awesome, single mother, what strength you have. I always think when my husband travels for long trips how much empathy I have for single moms. Thank you. Happy Mothers Day!

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of sweet baby Finn for your family! It has been so much fun watching the next chapter of your family’s story unfold through instagram and your blog! We have three littles of our own and just purchased our own home, so hopefully in the future adoption will be a part of our story as well. It is truly a blessing and one of the purest forms of joy, for all involved. I as well was adopted, and am so thankful! Thank you for the inspiration on how to make our new little house a home, and thank you so much for this recipe- can’t wait to try it out!
Thank you for sharing such a kind comment. That is so neat you plan to adopt, and how you want to pass it on, what an inspiration, I love hearing stories like that. Finn is such a joy. And yes, try the bread, so easy and fun to make!
What exact yeast are you using?
What do we cover with to bake?
Thanks
Good questions:) you use instant yeast and cover it with tin foil. I forgot to cover mine the last time I made it and it turned out fine, just harder crust.
Love love love it all. Is this a recipe that can be used in a bread maker?? (Easy way out – but it’s the only way bread making happens for me!) thanks, Brooke! God bless you!
I wouldn’t use a bread maker, it is really so easy. The bread maker kneads the bread and you dont need to do that.
All you are mixing is the water, salt, yeast and flour. Best of luck!!
Sounds so easy. Will have to give it a try!
What a beautiful story about your mom. Such a loving servant’s heart. Your mom is going to love her Mother’s Day gift! Can’t wait to make the bread myself! Happy Mother’s Day!
