It’s that time of the month.
That time I want to change something. Oh did you think I was talking about something else?:) Nope not that kind of blog.
I am pretty sure you have all seen what I have above our kitchen banquette. The chalkboard. When I first started sharing my home over on Instagram I was asked several times a day where someone could find my chalkboard. My fingers started to automatically type “it was a broken mirror that I painted with chalkboard paint” like a broken record. While I do still love that chalkboard and plan on keeping it. I am itching for a change in that space.
Incase you forgot- this is what it looks like now with the chalkboard-
I love artwork in a kitchen.
Artwork in a kitchen adds a personal touch, some charm and really brings the kitchen to life.
I have been having a hard time deciding what I want to do in here. So I have not made a decision. I started to think “what would I tell someone to do if they were having a hard time deciding on art?”
This is what I came up with-
Go through pictures you have saved on Pinterest or Screen shot on your phone. Or pull out a design book or magazine. What images do you notice you keep gravitating towards?
So I did just that. But my pictures of art in the kitchen are ALLLL over the place! Well kind of. I do notice a running theme. See if you can pick it out.
10 Kitchen Art Ideas-
#1- Colorful Fruit Art (Source) Similar Art Option- HERE
#2- Black and White Retro Food Art (Source) Similar Art- HERE
#3- Colorful Eclectic Grouping of Art (source)
#4- Kids Art (source) I don’t think I will do this above our banquette but I sure love it. Isn’t it just so charming?
#5- Grouping of colorful art. This looks like children’s art too. Reminds me of THIS idea of turning kids art into framed works of art.
#5- Oil Paintings or Original Art (source)
#6- Antlers (source) I love me some antlers, but this wont really work in our tight kitchen. I used to have antlers above our chalkboard, but it got too busy.
#7- Graphic Art Print (source) I have loved this simple saying “Work hard and be nice to people” and in the kitchen is a great place to see it daily.
#8- Modern Poster Art- (source) This would be fun to have made to say New York City!
#9- Word and Saying Art (source). I actually already have THIS sign and when I saw it in the kitchen. I thought that could be a cute spot to put mine. I tried it and shared a picture below…
It is not my favorite here. It feels really farm house and not exactly the look I am wanting. But it was fun to try!
#10- Or here is an idea…No Art! This works because they have ship lap. But wouldn’t really work for me source
What do you think? What is your favorite look? I did consider a mirror, but then I remembered what I have told clients- I don’t want to watch myself eat….do you? (actually might help if you are trying to loose weight:)).
Did this help YOU determine what design style you love the most- what makes you happiest?
You can shop my kitchen HERE and find all the blog posts about our kitchen there too.
I love that piece of art there! So much time is spent in the kitchen with a lot of communicating. Maybe paint the frame the color of your roman shade or the gray in the cement tile floor to tie it all together visually. But it’s your kitchen and you need to “feel” it!!
you are so sweet. Thanks Lynda:)
How about a botanical similar to this…..https://www.etsy.com/listing/508866354/botanical-prints-botanical-print-set?ref=market
It’s not my shop. I just kind of like the look….
Well I LOVE that!! hmmmmm now you have me thinking! Thanks!
Hi! I hope Lola feels much better today! Here is my 25c. I would either hang there simple but sttricking art . Let’s say white flower like daffodil with black/navy background. One piece but large instead of several small to avoid havotic appearance of your kitchen. Let’s be honest – kitchens are always cluttered with stuff (at least mine like that :)). We always cook then eat, then clean, then cook and etc…… Our Kitchen rarely looks like the one in home decor magazines 🙁
My second choice would be again one large piece of art that you LOVE so much that cannot take your eyes of it, that will always make your heart sing 🙂
As always, I love your blog. You inspire me so much!
thank you! That is great feedback:) and thank you so much for asking about Lola! She went to school today!! And is sleeping through the night! xxx
I Forgot to add that acrylic floating large frame may be a great choice (to my opinion :))
Maybe an old stained mirror? Although I wouldn’t want to see the chalkboard go…..
I know after taking pictures yesterday, I was like hmmmm I still like the chalkboard too:)
I know what you mean about itching for a change. I too, have a chalkboard in our breakfast nook (but it’s where we eat alllll the time in our open floor plan house. I also DIY’s mine from a mirror. My mom purchased the mirror for me from Kohls for my first apartment which i had above the fireplace. When my husband and I purchased our house, I took out the mirror, painted the frame part, and paineed metal with chalkboard paint. But I never use it as a magnet board.
I still really like yours in your kitchen but I understand wanting to changet things up. I think I like the gray-black of the chalkboard in contrast with all the white/cream. I’ve had mine on my wall for 4.5 years and I also was wondering if I should change it. I can’t decide either.
I love the hamburger sign and the Boston sign the best! They are fun and playful and that’s how your house seems to be ;c)
oh thank you! I agree:) I really like those! And thanks for saying my house is playful!
