When we moved into our current home in Connecticut I knew going into it we would need to remodel both bathrooms. What I didn’t know is how badly I would want it done as soon as we stepped foot into them. It felt like camping in a trailer to me. The bathrooms were so outdated. We are big bathers and the tubs were way to small for the space, they could handle something much larger. Let alone the tubs didn’t have the right plugs or drain right.
The walls were painted in a dark brown color. It felt like a cave and was so unflattering, not what you want in a bathroom. I love a dark powder bath, but it is not the best in a bathroom that you need good lighting in to get ready. Everything felt too heavy and so gloomy. It felt so nice to get a new coat of light paint on the walls. Paint does wonders. We used Classic Gray OC-23 from Benjamin Moore, it is a very subtle gray and I love how it turned out.
We had new Carrera marble tile put in. I love the look of the honey comb tile, it is a classic tile that never goes out of style.
I had this old ladder that I had hanging on a wall in our basement in our Utah home. I had to have it cut down to fit in the bathroom. I love it in this space. In the summer it is the perfect spot to hang swimsuits after a day at the beach. Or dry a bunch of guest towels.
I didn’t have the intention of creating a nautical theme bathroom it just evolved with things we collected. The whale on the wall are actually salad tongs from Anthropologie but I wanted to use them as art. The Sea Horse is a print out from Print Shop Studio for only $5. I hung it on a clipboard I picked up from Target.
My girls love to collect sea shells from our local beach. I have a large glass jar on their bathroom counter they can add to it as they please.
This Mermaid and Merman are actually dish towels that were too cute to use. I framed them in Ikea frames. I didn’t even cut the towels, just tucked them in the back incase I want to use them for something else one day. I love that art can really be anything you find interesting.
For the shower I did subway tile with a beveled edge. I did a lighter gray grout than I have ever done. I normally do a dark charcoal, but this tied in the lighter floors.
Behind the door to the bathroom was this little linen closet. It had horrible beveled doors on it before. We just popped them off and left it open. I stock it full of things we need extra of or use everyday.
My girls keep their earrings in the little white egg holder. I spray painted the locker baskets that I had in white to create a simple, unified feel. The “So Fresh” and “So Clean” are also print outs from Print Shop Studios. Seriously art for $5, you can’t go wrong.
I actually just ordered this vanity online from Home Depot. I wanted something fast, we had company coming and needed a sink. It has a marble top and soft closing doors. We have actually been happy with it so far. You can find it HERE. The navy roman shades came from Bed Bath and Beyond, I have one very close to me and I just stumbeled upon them and used their roman shades all in my house. The blue and white stripe plant holder is from Anthropolgie I couldn’t find it on sale anymore, you can find other options from them HERE. The macrame hanging holder I found at Home Depot and put a pot in it from Ikea you can also find some HERE and HERE. I left these plants for a month without water and they did just fine, I found the indoor plants at Home Depot.
I found the metal stool in a Utah store called CF Home. Click HERE to see something similar.

Gorgeous. Such a classic and beautiful makeover.
thank you so much! I appreciate your kind comment.
I’m so in love with the linen closet decor 🙂
Thank you! I love that little hidden closet, fun place to add a pop of inspiration 🙂
I just love everything you have done with your new home. I have a question. I have a similar linen closet with horrible doors which have since been removed, however, the bath towels need to go here and I hate seeing them and all the extra bathroom supplies we need to put in here….. where do you keep your towels????? thank you for sharing your beautiful home! I just enjoy seeing it so much!
I have some rolled up in the basket and I also put them in the cabinet under the sink. We have over the door hooks that we hang about 4 of them on as well. Hope that helps! Thanks:)
Yes! Adore that marble honeycomb tile so much!!! xx
Me too! Thank you:)
Wow, what a transformation! I just love everything you chose to incorporate. It’s timeless, but with loads of personality. LOVE! We were just at the IKEA in New Haven last weekend ?
Thanks Laura! You are very sweet. That is close to me, about 30 minutes away, I have made that drive several times to Ikea!
Love your creativity. Who knew that salad tongs, kitchen hand towels, office supplies and a ladder could work in a bathroom! Thanks for sharing this fun and inviting bathroom packed with great ideas (and bargains).
Thank you for noticing everything and for your kind comment. I really appreciate it:)
Looks great! Love me some marble tile. Can I ask where you picked up the mirror? I love!
I have had it for a long time. It is from Hooker Furniture and discontinued! Sorry.
Curious what color grout you used in your bathroom?
