Older Girl Bedroom- Brighten Up With Wallpaper

At one of Ella’s recent soccer games my mom and I were getting caught up on life and our friends. Last year we had given her best friend, Susan, a bedroom makeover. We were chatting about Susan’s sweet family and I offered to give her daughter a bedroom makeover, who could use a little bright spot in her day. Sharing how we brightened up the room with wallpaper and patterns.

Bedroom Plan-

Bedroom Before-

Averi’s room is in the basement and the biggest issue with a basement room is how dark it can be! It actually looks light now at 10:00 am, but by 1:00 pm, it is dark here. Before with darker walls, dark furniture and light blocking window blinds. She did have a few things on the wall, but they cleared it all out so it was ready for us to decorate.

Bedroom After-

Light walls with lots of color, personality, and cozy, beautiful bedding! We left the chair rail moulding to save time (we try to do a makeover in 2 days). But we actually really did like the way it looks! Averi loves animals and the outdoors, so she was thrilled with the Menagerie Wallpaper (NWG20 for 20% off site wide through April 30, 2025).

Bed and Bedding-

This White Metal Spindle Bed is cute and sturdy! We did feel like we needed the box spring for height, which was perfect because I love this eyelet bed skirt to hide the box spring!

I basically follow the same recipe when making any of my beds. This makes for a fluffy, comfortable place to sleep and a really pretty bed to look at too!
Mattress Pad– I start with this mattress pad. It is cooling and adds extra padding to a mattress…a must!
Eyelet Cool Sheet Set– I am a big fan of patterned sheets! I loved the blue and sweet acorn pattern on these for Elle.
Peach Eyelet Duvet–the details on this duvet cover is darling! Eyelet details and small square print.
Duvet Insert (in extra) – my go-to! This duvet is cooling in the summer and warming in the winter, it is light and fluffy! This is an investment piece that you will have for well over 20 years!!! Just simply change the duvet cover when you want a new look.

Euro Shams– I use these, feather and down euro shams for ALL my beds!
Standard pillow insert– quality inserts make the bed!

Lumbar Pillow Cover-Finished off the look with this detailed lumbar cover.
Lumbar Insert– very nice Feather and Down pillow.

Again, a moment I’ve never seen a prettier bed skirt than this Eyelet Bed Skirt!

Bench and Rug-

I finished off the look with this bench at the end of the bed. Natural colors to pull in the cream of the wallpaper, lamp and mirror. I changed my mind on the original rug. Once I had it down I felt like it was too light and wanted something darker. Luckily I had this green and blue plaid rug on hand (sold out HERE is similar). I like how it makes the room look a little more mature.

Curtains-

The window is quite small in the room, to get the most we took off the blinds and hung these Denim Blue Curtains that have a light blocking. Curtain panels are off the window so we don’t block any light and help make the window appear larger.

Closet-

She has a large closet with no doors. I wanted to make it fun and feel part of the room.

We hung these blue gingham curtains so she can now close it off. We did 3 curtain panels on each side to look nice and full.

I really wanted to use this dark green willowberry wallpaper (NWG20 for 20% off site wide through April 30, 2025) in the room too! It’s fun to look different than the rest of the room but pulls out the greens of the cream wallpaper in the rest of the room.

Dresser-

We love this long scalloped blue dresser! It’s thin enough to not take up too much space. Pulls out the blues in the Wallpaper. A nice tall mirror that matches the wood tones in the room.

I kept the top of the dresser simple with this green wavy lamp and flowers. The marble tray protect the dresser and adds a nice layer.

Art-

I LOVE this art so much!!! I want to find a spot in my home for it. I like how it has the dark background to pull in the darker colors in the rug. Art from Lindsay Letters HERE code nesting15 for 15% off!

Wall Sconce-

For extra glow and something fun on the walls we hung two sconces on either side of the art (they plug-in!)

Nightstand-

I could not have been happier with this pink nightstand! Very large and perfect color, it comes in multiple colors too.

Adore this scallop rattan lamp, perfect warm glow.

And we always have a diffuser on our nightstands. The first thing Averi said when she went into the bedroom was how good it smelled! I had orange and lavender diffusing.

Light Fixture-

This Ribbed Glass Chandelier brought so much light to room! Reminds me of my girls bathroom light.

Averi loves her room, she says how happy it has made her, and that makes us so happy! It’s never too late to make some changes to brighten up your space and enjoy your space!
