Our new Window Boxes and Exterior Peek!

We hung window boxes over the weekend. They add a lot of charm to the exterior! And once the plants grow in more they will just look better and better. I haven’t shared a full finished photo of the exterior yet, with the copper penny rain gutters, I will soon! But here is a peek….

We ordered these self-watering window boxes, they are great quality and were the perfect size for our large windows. We left off the decorative corbels, didn’t go with the look of our exterior.
They have PVC inside the window boxes that you pour water down as a way to water the plants. We can also open the window and water the plants with a watering can, girls will enjoy this task!
We got all the plants we used at our local plant shop, Cactus and Tropicals.
I wanted plants that would hang down over the window box and have some height that cut into the window. I picked plants that had some flare, hung low and were filler.
They were really easy to install. Just drilled a pilot hole into our wood siding.
Twisted in a long screw. Done!
This is what the self-watering system looks like. DO NOT do what we do. You are supposed to leave the strings in. That is what wicks water to the roots of the plants. Kind-of like the same system that you use with a string to water your plants when you go out of town! Allows you to water your plants less 3 times less! (see it HERE).
