I wanted to do a follow-up post on Preset’s, printing family photo’s and some new frames we added to our front room! My goal with this post is to answer common questions I have been getting about my photos. And I thought with Christmas around the corner printing photos is something a lot of us are looking to do. I know both of our parents and grandparents love to get a new family photo of us. So I will share where I have them printed and how to make your photos look 100% better!
Common Preset and Photo Questions-
What is a Preset?
It is a set edit that you use in Lightroom. They can save you time when editing. If you’ve shot a lot of images at one time, it’s likely they will all need similar adjustments. Once you’ve edited one, you can create a Preset that you apply to all the others.
Why use a Preset?
- It is the fastest way to edit a photo
- You can edit your photo without ruining the quality
- All of your photos will look consistent
Can you use a Preset on any photo?
Yes! You can use a Preset on any photo. I use them on photos I take with my iPhone and with my Canon Rebel
Where do you find a Preset?
You can Preset creators on Instagram and Etsy! I am sure there are many sources. But that is where I have found mine. I had someone on Etsy create a the same edits that I use on all my photo’s to a custom Preset. You can find the exact preset that I use on all my photo’s HERE- The Nesting with Grace Preset.
Once you purchase a Preset is it yours?
Yep! You can use it forever (I have deleted the Lightroom app and the presets did disappear, so be aware of that).
What do you use to apply a Preset?
Adobe Lightroom CC to your phone to edit photos on your phone, this is my favorite way to edit photos! (Lightroom is trickier to use on your desktop, I just use the app on my phone). But when you purchase a Preset make sure you purchase one for where you plan to use it- Mobil or Desktop.
How do you install a Preset?
Most all Preset’s come with instructions on how to download them. Very simple The creator of the Nesting with Grace Preset has a video on youtube HERE. Below I used the exact same edit on all of my photo’s (the Nesting with Grace Preset). When you buy the Nesting with Grace Preset you get THREE editing options that you can play with. I use each of them for different things.
Nesting with Grace Preset– BEFORE (on the left) and AFTER (on the right) with Preset
What camera do you use?
Canon EOS Rebel T6i Digital SLR with EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Lens – Wi-Fi Enabled
It is a really affordable camera. I have used it for about a year now. I chose this camera because it has great reviews. It is wi-fi enabled- you use an app to transfer the photos right from your camera to your phone via bluetooth. Simple instructions come to follow on how to do it. It also has the ability to video! PS- I have THIS camera strap.
I also have THIS camera stand that works with your phone or my bigger camera.
How do you print your photos?
I don’t print all my photo’s. I really only print photo’s around Christmas time. I print them for grandparents and I update the photo’s we already have framed. I always just print them on Walgreens I like that I can choose a matte finish. But when you choose the matte finish you have to have them mailed to you, which is awesome, but it does take a little longer. And make sure to google for a coupon code to use- I found this current code- FROMSANTA for 50% off!
Where do you put family photo’s?
I have a gallery wall up our stairs that I update photo’s at the end of each year. I just leave the old photo in the frame. I personally LOVE candid photos. You can print photos from your iPhone! Just make sure they are the original and not zoomed in too much. The frames on our gallery wall are super old, like 10 year old. I bought them all on clearance at a store.
I recently added THESE Acrylic Frames to the side of our fireplace that Highland Hardware sent to me. I love that they feel super light and airy. I did not want anything too busy or heavy. One of those frames would make a great gift with a family photo for a parent or grandparent. The frames are very custom looking and also a style that can mix well with anyone’s home.
Once I added THESE acrylic frames I realized they felt a little too small. I didn’t want to do frames larger than an 8×10. So I added THIS blanket ladder next to the frames. I LOVE how the styles balance each other out- rustic and modern.
The blanket ladder I did, felt too small when I got it so we just added some random wood beads to the bottom to raise it up! And spray painted the base black. Easy fix to those shorter blanket ladders.
All of the photos I print I use the preset on too! It really makes editing photos a breeze.

Is there a way to crop out a person in a family photo ? My father in law was in on my side of the family picture and my mom wants it on her wall ? I’m just trying to learn about all this editing stuff , but may not have enough time before Christmas.
I love the painting over your fireplace. Do you know the artist?
I always enjoy your posts
Sorry if you’ve mentioned this in a previous post but I love the rug in your upstairs den. Is it the Kiwa from Rugs USA?
