I have a wonderful client who I have worked with for over 10 years. The first project I did for her was her second home in St. George Utah. This home was in need of a refresh after 10 years. I was just there this past weekend with family, she is always so generous to let us stay there. I added some finishing touches to her home office and the rest of the home. Below is an inspiration picture I used and to show her that we could keep her black computer cabinet in the room. She was thrilled she didn’t have to paint it! Proof that there are other ways to lighten a room other than painting everything. See what her home office looks like now and how close we were to my inspiration picture!
I think it is always so important to find an inspiration photo piece. It does not have to be just a photo, it could be a piece of fabric or art, you just need a starting point. It will remind you of the direction you are headed and keep you on track. As a designer it helps to share my vision with clients. We never copy, just use it to show ideas.
First you have to see the BEFORE photo of the Home Office…
Here is the AFTER…
We painted the walls in Boothbay Gray from Benajamin Moore. She wanted to do a different color in this home office because the rest of her home is now a bright white. Also a big change is the light fixture, she didn’t have a hanging light before and it really completes the room and pulls the black in another area. (Complete source guide at the end of the post).
We went with an open desk in the center of the room with chairs on either side. This creates a great spot to work, draw, color or play games.
I shared the above photos over on my Instagram Stories to get everyone to vote on the favorite gallery wall option. I got SO much feedback. I lost track but it was over 150 votes. It kind of made me laugh because each photo got a lot of votes, showing me that there is not one way to do something. The first photo on the far left had the most votes and it was my favorite too. My father-in-law was so cute and said that he liked #1 because it looked most like my style. So I went with that option!
