1- Clean your fridge
But seriously, don’t you love the cleanliness of a well-organized and clean fridge?! Go through your fridge, check the condiments and dressing. If you haven’t used it in a couple weeks, toss it out! (It may be time to let the pepper jelly that you bought to bring to a holiday party go.) When you begin to add your perishables back in, make sure to organized the items in a way that is easy to maintain.
My favorite organizing tools for the kitchen fridge are clear bins. They are great for bottles, produce, eggs, bags, etc! The fridge is a place that is prone to clutter, so having a way to group like things in a container that you can see through is really helpful to keeping it as organized as possible.
PS- I found This set of mixed metal mixing bowls similar to my gold that are discontinued
PSS- I am going to be cleaning out our fridge next week!!! We have our new fridge coming next week and our current fridge we are giving away to a local blog reader!

2- Play with decor placement– it isn’t glued in place
Before buying something new, play with what you already have! The quickest way to refresh your home to to move around accessories. We get so used to seeing something in a particular spot, that moving it someplace new can give you a fresh outlook on a whole room! I just added this oversized pink pot from walmart.com HERE.
Consider these simple steps to “shopping your home”
- Take everything off the shelf or out of the space and put it in a pile.
- Look at each accessory by itself (out of the vignette or shelf it’s been living in). Is there another spot this could look good in? Do you still love the item?
- Remove chunky knits or things that feel “wintry.”
For Spring, I love a clean, minimal aesthetic, so consider leaving some spots– like a coffee table, or counter top– empty and see what you think!
3- Plan your outdoor space!
Sometimes we get Spring Fever before the weather gets the message that we are ready! If you can’t get outside for yard/porch projects yet, start making plans for outdoor patio! Making plans for something can give you an endorphin release almost as if you had actually done the thing! This is why we love PLANNING the vacation!
If an outdoor space is on your project list this year, I recommend making a simple design board. You can begin to visualize enjoying the area before it may be time to actually get out there! Make sure to take measurements. By making a plan, you can even get your furniture ordered, or be watching for sales!
I am so excited about our new porch! I shared my ideas and the progress of it, on this post. I just ordered these metal chairs for our outdoor dining table! Go HERE to see all the links to my favorite outdoor furniture from walmart.com.
4- Plan for the Spring Fun!!
Make plans for spring break. If you have kids in school, spring break can be a great time to reconnect and spend some time together. If you don’t have kids, you can still plan sometime to get out and enjoy the changing weather!
We have planned a fun trip to Bahamas this year, and I cannot wait to soak in some sunshine as a family! I purchased these inexpensive shoes to take on our Spring break trip!
You don’t need to go on a vacation to make some fun memories, though. With a little planning, you can explore your own town or nearby areas. Pretend you are a tourist, and check out sites and Trip Advisor or Yelp to see your hometown in a different light. You may discover a new restaurant or fun thing to do that you didn’t even know was around! The trick is getting it on the calendar, and making it happen! If you are new to an area, consider asking people around you in a similar situation (single, young married, little kids, teenage kids, etc) to join in the fun!
5- Clean outside windows LET THE LIGHT IN– Add your screens
A favorite allegory tells of a woman who complained about the dirtiness of her next door neighbor’s laundry as she hung it out to dry each week.
The wife looked out the window, and to her surprise, she saw her neighbor hanging dirty laundry on the clothesline.
‘That laundry isn’t clean, it’s still dirty!’ she said to her husband. ‘Someone needs to teach her a thing or two when it comes to washing her clothes!’
A couple of days later, the couple sat down at their kitchen table for another meal. The wife saw her neighbor hanging clothes on the clothesline. But this time something was different.
‘Wow, look!’ the surprised wife said to her husband, ‘Her clothes are clean! Someone must have taught her how to wash her clothes!’ Without raising his head from his plate, the husband kindly responded, ‘Actually, honey, I got up early this morning and washed the window.’
And so it is with life—what we see when watching others depends on the window through which we look. Washing our own windows from time to time changes our perspective.
Washing your windows is good for more than just metaphor! Bright Spring sunshine is so good for soul! Over winter, our windows can become dirty with weather and wind (and an inevitable lack of desire to go out in the cold and clean them). It always amazing how much lighter my home appears when we clean the exterior side of the windows!
6- Bring Spring in by adding plants inside that you can move outside soon enough-
Are you like me and can’t wait to get your Spring plants going? Buy them now and enjoy them inside before the weather is ready for them to live outside. If you have a covered porch or live somewhere that is getting warm, you can obviously keep them there. I just got this set of three white pots from walmart.com
If you plant annuals, you can buy the smaller, less expensive seedlings and start their growth cycle before you put them in the ground. Place them outside during the sunniest part of the day, and then move them in to avoid freezing overnight.
7- Mix up your wardrobe-
Springtime can be tricky when it comes to wardrobe. You may be ready to ditch your coat, but you can still rock your chunky sweaters and cute sweatshirts! Put some spring in your outfit by rolling up the sleeves or pairing a chunky sweater with a pleated skirt. You can also wear lighter colors like this cute sage green sweater! Consider to start showing skin slowly. Ankles anyone? Lola and I got matching cropped pants (my pants– I would size down) (Lola’s pants HERE)
8- Declutter one area a day!
Spring cleaning is absolutely a thing! Spring cleaning started in the days when homes were heated by fireplaces, and efforts were made to prevent heat from escaping. When warm weather arrived, there was no longer a need for the fires to continue creating a mess inside and people would air out their homes and clean the soot from their walls. Another reason for cleaning taking place in spring is that warmer weather and longer days work as a stimulant for a lot of people to become more active.
Try decluttering one space per day. As with the refrigerator, you will want to make sure there is order in the replacement of things you will keep. Grab these baskets to store everything in stations. We cleaned out the books the girls no longer read and things they no longer used. We ended up cleaning out two large drawers!!!
We even cleaned out Finns closet! (we need a chalk pen to write on those basket labels!
9- Lighten up pillows and throws!
During the Fall and Winter, I love adding chunky knit blankets and fur throw pillows. It feels warm and cozy. Spring and Summer call for a lighter feel. We want airiness and lightweight materials. Consider exchanging a velvet throw pillow for a simple one or switching the throw blanket from wool to cotton! I just moved around pillows I had and changed out pillow covers, easy change. (PS- we have a new rug coming next week, if you missed it I gave our other one away).
And here are some of my favorite recent finds from walmart.com! I am in love with these $16 sweaters (available in 3 colors). Not too bulky, great for Spring transition! Walmart is a great spot to look for trending fashion that is very affordable and nice quality. They have premium brands too. I like that walmart.com makes it easy to quickly glance what it new on their “trending” page!
