Added a little Christmas to our living room. I feel like it is similar to our Christmas last year, but then I look at photos last year and it is different. So tell me, do you change up where you put things every year? Or are you a creature of habit and place everything where you always do? I highly recommend mixing it up! That way without adding any new decor everything will feel new and fresh! I thought I would share 4 things that are Christmas Decor Must-Have's. If you have these 4 things, it will feel festive and you will be set! 4 Christmas Decor Must Have's- #1- Tree ... Read More
Painted Piano and Wallpaper Accent Wall- Make a Statement!
Today we did a mini makeover for some friends of ours, that took about two and a half hours to do. I love little makeovers like this that show how you can love the home you have with a little bit of love and effort. The recipe for this mini makeover was- a main piece of furniture- a thrifted piano, some peel and stick wallpaper to create a fun accent wall, a few accessories, a plant or two and some accent lights. And we were ready to make a major statement! Do you remember this family room and fireplace we made-over couple months ago? I stole that mirror that is above their fireplace ... Read More
Living Room Affordable Cozy Makeover
Our good friends, Sarah and Joe have a cape, but very different than ours. They have the traditional stairs by the front door leading to the second floor, like we do, but off to the right they have a really large living room. It is a great space, that I have secretly had the itch to fix it up for her for awhile! Now, I bet you are thinking that you are never going to invite me over. Or the opposite, you want me to come in hopes that I rearrange your furniture in my head, then eventually follow through and do it in real life. I don't judge ANYONE for their home. But I can't help myself ... Read More
Shiplap Fireplace and DIY Mantle (Ditched the Old Traditional)
A lot of you wanted the step by step tutorial on this DIY shiplap fireplace makeover that Kevin and our friend Joe did (in Joe's home). It turned out really amazing. They did such a good job. I had a basic vision of taking the existing fireplace mantle completely off, (it was very traditional and really too small for the space) and coming up with something that we could DIY. It had to not take too much time and not cost a ton of money. Sounds like a simple request right? "I don't want this to take too much time or money!" haha! Famous last words. In our home we added an electric ... Read More
4 Design Lessons I Have Learned in My Home
I was going to title this blog post- "4 Design Mistakes I have Made". I actually think "mistakes" might be kind-of harsh. So I called it,"Four Design Lessons I have learned"! There is nothing to be embarrassed about with learning. For me the only way to learn and get better is through trial and error. And I still continue to learn about design daily, just through moving things around in our home. From getting the right curtain rods to how many accessories is too many. When I get asked- "how did you learn how to design", it was honestly through practice! I started at a high-end design store ... Read More
New Rug in our Living Room and Cordless Bamboo Shades!
Alright. Alright, I did it. I totally changed the rug in our living room. If you follow me on Instagram there were signs it was coming. I saw a picture from our family room last year and I just loved it. I love a neutral rug in our living room. I just DO!!!! It is calming to me. Calm in the busy that our front room can be. We have amazing built-in bookcases, that I adore and really sold me on this little cape. But like any bookcase they can feel busy. So having something simple to ground it all just feels so right to me. I did love the rug we had in here. But the pink was starting to feel… ... Read More
Living Room Makeover- Choosing the RIGHT Furniture
I have a really great living room makeover to share with you today! I loved how this idea came to me to do this and I will share how these projects come about. But first I want to point out that the inspiration for this living room makeover is to share the importance of choosing the right furniture for your home. Not just bringing pieces you like from an old home or even purchasing new items without a plan. It is so important to consider the flow of your home. The layout. The function. How you will use the room. In this case, a living room that is really the center of the home. It is also ... Read More
New Sofa in our Eclectic Beach Style Cape Front Room
We just got a new sofa in our living room. I had so many people say "why are you selling your other blue sofa?" Or I even had one lady message me on Instagram and say "what a luxury to change things so often, most Americans can't do that." Then I felt bad and stupid for wanting to change up our living room and our perfectly fine sofa. Then I thought I shouldn't allow someone who doesn't really know me make me change what I want to do or to feel bad. I do agree it is nice and possibly a "luxury." But if you have a sofa, you too can have that "luxury" of selling what you have and getting ... Read More

Hello! Welcome to my Eclectic Fall Home Tour. I am joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life and 30 other bloggers to share our Fall Homes this week. We are a family of 5 living in Connecticut and have been for almost two years. We live in an 1100 square foot cape style home. Hanging Pendant Light DIY
I heard somewhere that an overhead light should only be turned on if you lost an earring! I totally agree. Overhead light can be so harsh, not very cozy or inviting. That is one thing I love about our 1950's Cape is that there is hardly any overhead lighting, forcing everyone to switch on a lamp for light. I fell in love with THESE pendant lights and did not have a spot in the traditional sense of where a pendant light should go. Most pendant lights come without a plug so you have to have them hardwired and that can be very expensive if you don't already have existing power to ... Read More
