I was talking to a local Instagram follower, whose partner is a firefighter at the station just down the road from me! She showed me a photo of their bedroom and I couldn’t help but offer to make it over for them. It wasn’t bad at all, it is just a really small master bedroom (that I can relate too) and the only spot to put their bed was right on the wall with the off centered windows. A design dilemma I wanted to tackle!
Thank you to my sponsor The Company Store
Small Master Bedroom Before-

Small Master Bedroom After-

Matt and Kara love how it turned out! Matt kept saying he couldn’t believe the change! We were there a little over an hour (it was a lot of prep work before) but it was a speedy makeover. Curtains, paint good bedding go a long way! Oh and some plants 🌱

They had painted right after she sent me the before photo, they were wanting to make changes asap! The walls are painted in Cotton Knit from Behr, which looks really pretty.

Bedding
As you know I use The Company Store bedding often. It is quality, timeless bedding that will last you year and years. Often with less-expensive bedding they have fiber inserts that break down over time and require you to buy new inserts after a year or two. Not with The Company Store bedding!

- Metal Bed
- Wrinkle-Free Sateen Sheet Set – (Creme) these are SO soft!!! I want to get them for our bed
- Duvet Cover – (White) Egyptian Cotton Sateen again, really soft!
- Duvet Insert- Down (ultra warmth) nice and fluffy, only insert I use on our personal beds too
- Fiore Cotton Voile Quilted Sham – (Multi) with Insert
- Fiore Reversible Cotton Voile Quilt – Multi
- PS- all the bedding is 20% OFF! CODE: T21SLEEP

I get asked all the time what duvet insert I use for our bed, all of them have the LaCrosse™ Down Comforter in the ultra warmth. I do not think it is too warm. Kevin and I like the weight actually! And a quality insert is cooling in the summer and warming in the winter. You really shouldn’t get too hot. I love the look of a duvet, and if you do too but you still sleep hot just use sheets and the duvet and skip the quilt!

I love going with a white duvet because it is timeless, especially if it is more of an investment. Then add a throw for a pop of color!

Since the rug has some warmer golden tones in it I wanted to repeat that in the bedding. I found this gorgeous Fiore Reversible Cotton Voile Quilt and shams. They really pull the room together. Other than that the bedding is all really neutral and easy to add an accent pillow to change the look of the room.

Are you stocked I only have four pillows on the bed?? Me too! But I didn’t want to cover up the iron bed and four felt like enough.
Windows
It is totally ok to put a bed in front of the windows! Don’t let a window be the boss of you! I do have the trick to making your bed look good in front of the window!

I did EIGHT curtain panels on this one wall! You really can’t go skimpy if the window wall is the focal point. We did take down the blinds. Blinds make me feel like I am in jail. And no, I don’t live here, but I feel like I just set these home owners free, by letting more light in! They can close the curtain panels for privacy.

Find details on the curtain panels and curtain rod on this post.
Rug

I actually had this rug and thought it would be really pretty in their bedroom. So the rug was my starting off point, I picked the bedding and curtains to match this rug. I really like the rug with the contrasting darker metal bed. I had tried to make the rug work in our living room and it just washed out with our light sofa and light walls. Check out the rug details here.

Thanks Matt and Kara for letting us solve your deign dilemma!
Love the bedside lamps! Can you share the source please? Thanks
They had those…. I believe they are Target
The mini makeover looks great. Love how everything came together. Just curious why you always include a pic of your shoes in your stories.
not really sure what you mean? “always a picture of my shoes?”
Never mind…It’s not important.
Did I miss info on the bed frame? Looks great. You are a great example of kindness to others ❤️
Wondering the same. Love the bed and the room!!! Thank you for sharing! Do you mind linking the bed?
Sure!! Find the bed HERE
Yes! Would love to know where the bed frame is from!
c
oh sorry! Thought I linked it, HERE is the bed link!
I LOVE this makeover! Curious if you think the panel trick would work on an off centered basement window that is not long or doubled next to another window, so you would see wall between the window and bed frame and would need to layer even more panels? I have a very similar space and love how you lightened everything up in your design. Best!
Thanks! I would do another layer of panels if I am understanding correctly… so you cover up the wall, make it look like a big window
I’d love the bed frame info as well! Beautiful makeover.
YES!!! Find the bed HERE
Hi Brooke
We have the same situation in our bedroom. Offset window.. About six months ago I did the same thing. Draped the entire wall. It was an idea that dawned on me out of the blue.
Our bed was in the same position for 25 years so we are very happy with the change.
Oh so happy for you!!! Love when something all of a sudden makes sense!
Do you have a link to the bed?
yes! find it HERE
How do you keep light colored sheets clean? Thanks!
Did you use a Queen duvet with a King insert? Looks extra fluffy 🙂
I just have a queen duvet in a queen insert!
We have the same situation in our bedroom…bed off center with window. I did the exact same trick of curtains bigger than the window to give the illusion that the window spans the whole width of bed. Seeing you do the same is so affirming!! Thanks! ☺️
