Navy’s Bedroom Makeover- 9 Year Old Girl

I shared that we were giving Ella’s rug to Navy for her bedroom makeover. Navy is the daughter to our high school friends, Andrew and Casi. Navy is a twin to Nash, I actually decorated their nursery (with Andrew) as a surprise when Casi was in the hospital having them! Nash has a room of his own and it was time for Navy to get a new bedroom that fits her sweet personality. We surprised her one day after school. Her thankful, sweet reaction was priceless!

Navy’s Bedroom Before-

Navy is the sweetest girl, and the only girl in her family with three brothers. She needed a room to reflect her!

Navy’s Bedroom After-

The after!! We went from a twin bed, that was pushed up against the wall, to a queen iron bed. She was thrilled for a bigger bed. And now the bed is the focal point, as it should be. We did take out the recliner, they decided it was never used and was just a space filler.
Navy is thrilled with the room! Her brother’s love it too. I will say she has one of the coziest beds ever! There should be zero complaints about going to bed (I doubt there was before:)).
The bedding was the first thing I picked to coordinate with the rug. Fluffy, cozy, eclectic bedding is the most important element in a bedroom. It is all from The Company Store! I fell in love with the mini flower duvet cover, the pattern and colors are just the sweetest. The flower pillow in the middle is passed down from Ella!

Swan Lake art really was the piece that completed her bedroom. I have looked at Lindsay Letters website a million times and never noticed this sweet Swan art, until I was looking for Navy’s room, meant to be for her!
We used the Rick Rack peel and stick wallpaper from my collection for a pop of color. Affordable wallpaper that adds character to the sweet bedroom.
Ella gave her this rug that was in her room! It is no longer available, one of a kind now!
Navy had the yellow table already in her room, didn’t even have to paint it! Simple vintage mirror, lamp and diffuser complete it. I had the basket I put under the nightstand for books and other things she might want close by.
You know I just had to get her a plant. Her parents should thank me it wasn’t a Gold Fish! Ha! Rather something that she has to water only once a week, teach them young to care for things I say.

Hutch After-

We painted this hutch right in this room. Just put a cloth down and started painting. We used Behr Ice Blue Chalk Paint. I love chalk paint because you don’t have to sand or do any prep before! After the paint dried we applied a top coat of Behr Wax to prevent the hutch from chipping.
I like to use everyday items as decor, a glass organizer for her nail polish, to a basket for books. There is a hole drilled in the back that we could plug-in for a small lamp.
She does still have a lot of toys but, as one does when making over any room, you evaluate each item that you put back into the room. Navy decided to donate a few items, and most of the toys went into her closet. I created a little spot to play with her dolls.
Very Marie Kondo to have your dresser in your closet. I personally love it!
We took down the blinds that blocked a lot of the light and swapped them for curtain panels. I used these slubby cotton curtain panels (in Thyme) from The Company Store, they complete the room. I did two panels on each side of the window, hung with this Black Curtain Rod. They darken the room enough for her at night and offer privacy on the second floor.
PS- Finn colored that Tulip! Kids art framed makes for wonderful art!
Hope that inspired you! Doesn’t require a lot of transform a room. Paint and cozy bedding are at the top of my list!

    Hi! Beautiful job! I’ve been following you on IG since before your move. I love the vibrant colors and different textures that you use. I wish I had that talented eye. I have a silly question. When you dress the bed, do you size up on the blankets or use what’s appropriate for the bed? What size do you use for the throws at the foot of the bed? I wish I could take apart the different layers, so I could see how the quilt fits in…I’m attempting to decorate my daughter’s room in our first house, so I’m starting with her bedding. Thanks for your time and inspiration!

      thank you! When I use Company Store bedding it is always slightly oversized, so I can use a queen on a queen. The throw at the end of the beds I try to do the same, queen on queen.
