I often get questions on how I get our bedding to look so fluffy and cozy! Today I am sharing how I make all our beds. Honestly a good quality insert is the key to making your bed look really good. Also, the right size of bedding pieces can make or break your bed. For instance I use an oversized knitted blanket at the end of the beds, if they were a smaller throw blanket it wouldn’t look the same. Keep reading for all my bedding tips and favorites…

- Linen Quilt (warm brown)– I have used this quilt in at least 5 makeovers! I love it. Soft and kind of silk-like texture one one side, with linen on opposite
- Linen Duvet Cover with this medium weight down insert– this is a REALLY good insert. You get what you pay for with inserts. They cost a lot, but make a bed look so fluffy! Plus a quality insert is cooling in the summer and warming in the winter.
- Chunky Knitted Blanket (warm brown)– We have one on Ella’s bed and on Lola’s
- Dutch Euros– these inserts can get really flat over time. I stuffed mine with a king pillow!
- 22″ Boucle Cream Pillow– I think 22″ is a must for an accent pillow on a king bed
- Boucle Round Pillow– love this unique pillow shape and the scale is great for a king bed!
- Iron and upholstery bed– soft to lean against and love the leather accent
- Mattress Tuft & Needle, the Hybrid– the most comfortable mattress ever! I instantly liked this when I slept on it.

My making the bed recipe (links below)
- Put a cozy quilt over sheets. You CAN keep flat or fold down the quilt to expose the sheets (if you want to pull in your accent color).
- Add your duvet. I have it come to just the edge of the bed. Fold the top of your duvet under 2 times for a full fluffy look.
- Stack the sleeping pillows in the back.
- Next add Euro’s. (I stuffed an extra king pillows in each to make them extra full). I did 2 Dutch Euro pillows. Another option is to do 3 standard Euro’s.
- I added 2 accent pillows in the front to coordinate the colors. I recommend 22-26″ for a king in front. For a queen the same or could go down to 20″ at the smallest.
- Then this round pillow for extra fun!
- Layer a throw over the duvet or comforter, this pulls in your accent color and makes it extra fluffy (totally extra look!).
Bed Skirt Question-
Q- In all your bedrooms, you don’t use bed skirts and I love the look. My daughter has a iron bed frame that is beautiful and would like to have it exposed as you do. Issue is her bed has a box spring mattress under her pillow top mattress. What can I do to hide the “ugliness”? Your home is gorgeous!!
A- Good question! Mattress height plays a part in that for sure. Maybe she needs a low-profile box spring? Or none at all? I also order a quilt that is the right size- often more expensive quilts are slightly oversized- so check sizes before you order. Or you could put a fitted sheet on the box spring to hide it.

- Chunky Throw– this is smaller, so rather than fold at it the end of the bed I gathered it more on the corner
