This is us sitting outside our home for the first time. It was a surreal moment, I had never seen the house before in person, only analyzed the pictures online. Kev had went and looked at about 7 homes and this was is favorite. So here we are.
We went and closed on our home and a few hours later this sofa was delivered soon after. It did wonders at lifting my spirits. Made this unfamiliar place feel a tad bit like home and us.
And that same day we had the carpet ripped out in the 2nd floor and they started to install the wood I had picked out a couple weeks prior.
And that same day we started to paint. The house is very small so there really isn’t a lot of room to put things without having an exact spot for it. I decided to keep it light and a very neutral color that I could use through most of the house. I went with Cloud Cover from Benjamin Moore. I didn’t want it gray or yellow, just neutral and it is perfect.
Painting through the night with cell phones stuck in our shirts. We worked every day for a week 7 am to midnight, we ate, slept and drank this house.
Luckily we did get that sofa because Ella and Mandi slept on it. While Kev, Lola and I slept on a mattress we pulled out of the moving truck. (One smart thing we did was tried to pack mattresses last on the truck).
They spent a little too much time on their iPads until we could get the toys unboxed.
This was frightening. I can’t believe that really nothing was broken.
THIS still makes me nauseous to look at. It was pretty overwhelming to say the least. It was very cold. There were so many boxes. There were so many reasons it sucked. But so many reasons it didn’t suck as bad. My sister Mandi was there to help. It wasn’t snowing. My Mom tracked down missionaries to come and help us for a few hours. My husband is a strong hard worker.
Oh these cuties, so happy that Mandi entertained them with fun things. This blooming tree was darling that their Aunt Kami gave Ella for her birthday.
Put sister to work. She loves to help with projects and I am all about maximizing all the help I can.
I was so anxious to get started decorating those book shelves. We had to find lamps asap, there is not a lot of overhead lighting (which I normally love, but hard when your lamps are at the back of the truck).
We weren’t short on pillows or again, IPad time.
We did get our bedroom painted very first, we wanted to get beds up as quick as possible. In the master bedroom I wanted it to look almost like chalkboard, very flat and dark. I picked Gray from Benjamin Moore and I LOVE it.
They got a couple trips to see our new beach, just a mile away from our new house. They would giggle and collect seashells until their hands and faces would freeze.
And the adventure begins.
Oh my goodness, looking at your moving boxes/truck make me naseus too! Ha! Moving stinks. But look how pretty your home and neighborhood are?! I can't wait to come visit!
Yes! Moving is the worst…similar to child birth;) can't wait for a visit!!
Love these memories! This was the fastest week of my entire life. Still can't belive how much we accomplished in that short week! You and Kev are amazing! Thanks for letting me tag along!!
So thankful we had you! Xoxo
A couple of rockstars right there!! Way to chronicle such a pivotal moment!!
Thanks Rach! Hopefully you took a lot of pics of BOTH moves!
The house seems pretty nice, and it’s nice to know that you’ve had lots of help with unpacking your stuff. You did a great job on packing the mattress last on the moving truck, otherwise you guys would’ve slept on the floor while you were still getting everything out. Speaking of the moving truck, it looks it did its job well, since none of it broke during the drive. Anyway, thanks for sharing this with us. All the best!
