In a smaller home you have to get creative with your furniture placement. Making the most of every.single.space. A home office just wasn’t happening in an 1100 square foot home with three kids. I was thrilled when I found the THIS small desk to use in our upstairs family room. It created a great space for blogging, puzzles, coloring and storage for guests. Not to mention, I love the way a small desk looks behind a sofa rather than your traditional sofa table. It is a great way to maximize your small spaces.
I floated the sofa into the room to separate my daughters Legos and toys from the rest of the room. We used to have a storage cabinet filled with toys behind the sofa. As my daughters interests have changed we no longer needed that toy cabinet (they do have other toys in their bedroom). I knew that we would get a lot of use out of a writing desk in this space and we already have!
My oldest likes to play Legos on the new writing desk or do a puzzle here. I like that I now have a spot for another lamp and it creates a great separation of the two areas. When guests come they put their luggage on that gold antique trunk and they can use the writing desk for their other things.
The price of this writing desk just couldn’t be beat. Also the size was perfect. It helped that I had the toy cabinet in this space before, it helped me know the right size of writing desk I needed for this space. If you are unsure of the size, tape off the desk size on the floor and live with that for a few days, especially if you have a smaller space like we do.
I searched online for the perfect writing desk until I found mine. These were some of my favorites that are too good not to share! (Contains Affiliate Links).

I’m back. That black wall was chalkboard! That makes it better!
Of all the beautiful things, I think i was most struck by those black buffalo check stools, ottomans, whatever you’d call them!
I love your blog! Just found it!
You are so kind! Thanks for checking out our chalkboard wall. The little buffalo check stools were lego stools that I just recovered with that Ikea fabric. Thanks for reading:) Have a good week!
I love the look of the desk. . I saw it at Target too but she noticed on the comments that someone said they had trouble with USB ports making a buzzing sound when used. Have you tried yours?
We have used them and I haven’t noticed a buzzing sound…. I have only used the USB ports a few times though. It is really convenient to have them there!
