I shared on my Friday post that I got a Vitamix for Mothers Day and that I would share my favorite smoothie recipe. Smoothies are my quick-go to meal replacement. Sometimes I don’t have time to sit and eat breakfast or lunch so making a quick healthy smoothie is a life saver, especially when trying to eat my best and healthiest.
I asked my hubby if he knew I wanted a Vitamix from THIS post where I talked about making my favorite Paleo Non-Dairy Ice-Cream. A reader asked what type of blender I had and I told her I really wanted a Vitamix. Kevin said he saw that comment after he ordered it:)
Also I am back at it. I used to eat strict Paleo diet for years then I stopped because I was trying to get pregnant and was giving anything a try to have another baby. I have decided to go bak to eating a strict paleo diet. I do so much better just to eliminate things from my diet. That way I am never questioning should I have cake at the party or shouldn’t I? Or if I start to eat tortilla chips it is hard to track of how much I eat and I end up over eating. Also I feel so much better when I eat paleo. I have been strict for two weeks now and I FEEL SO GOOD. Even if I haven’t lost any weight (I haven’t weighed myself, but I can tell I have lost weight) I just feel better knowing I have control of what I eat. I also look better- no bloating and I see definition in my stomach already.
I am totally a creature of habit. I like to try new foods but when I find something I like, I stick with it and make it over and over. Since I got my Vitamix I have made this smoothie for breakfast or lunch once a day as a quick meal replacement.
Green Protein Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup almond milk (unsweetened)
- 2 cups fresh spinach
- 4 frozen strawberries
- 1/4 frozen banana
- 1 scoop protein powder
- 1 scoop Vital Proteins
- 1 tablespoon almond butter or any nut butter
- 1/2 cup ice
Instructions
- Throw it all in the blender and blend until everything is blended together!
Notes
*Instead of strawberries I will use about 1/2 cup of frozen cherries depending what I have on hand.
*I LOVE Vital Proteins they are Collagen peptides that promote youthful skin, healthier hair, stronger nails and helps keep bones healthy. I add it to muffins, paleo bread and waffles too!
Can kids have protein powder? Nothing is wrong with supplementing a balanced diet with the occasional smoothie that includes a scoop of protein powder. Same with Vital Collagen Peptides
Are Vital Collagen Peptides better than Protein Powder? They are just different. Collagen is a protein made up of amino-acids: glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and arginine, all of which help our body’s connective tissue, skin, hair, nails, as well as gut health stay as healthy as possible. Collagen protein is different than whey and casein proteinbecause of these high levels of amino acids. So it doesn’t hurt to add both to your smoothie! Especially if you work out regularly.
How much protein can you consume in one sitting? It depends on a lot of things. But most should aim for about 20 grams per meal. But you can have more. I read an article that said it is a myth that your body can only absorb so much protein in one sitting.
It is totally optional to add the protein power and the Vital Collagen. I tried it both ways and liked them both. Typically when I have a smoothie I am having it as a meal replacement so I always add protein. And I have noticed a difference in my recovery from working out when I take the Vital Collagen Proteins. (I buy THIS Vital Collagen Peptides and THIS plant based Protein Powder).
*You need to make THIS amazing Paleo Granola to garnish the top of your smoothies! I love the added crunch and flavor. A little goes a long way. Seriously smoothie game changer.
If you are a reader of my blog you know that I don’t like to keep small appliances on my counters. I don’t have a lot any counter space. So you might be wondering where I put the Vitamix in our tiny kitchen….
The Vitamix base is big and kind of heavy. I created a spot on my favorite Tea Cart for it. I put the top of the Vitamix in my cupboard but leave the base out.
I can easily pop it up from the bottom and make a smoothie right here! I keep my protein powder in a glass jar so it is handy.
And now finally that weird plug in the middle of the wall totally makes sense! #1950’shome
I can’t wait to try making soups in our Vitamix, it cooks it in the blender! Let me know your favorite smoothie to make!

Hi, Brook,
your emails are like sunshine. They set my mood for the rest of the day! Thank you 🙂
As for the vitamix, we have it for a couple years now, but don’t use it that much. Hopefully, we will do more. One of our favorite recepies is strawberry oatmeal breakfast smoothie. We found it on all recepies.com
1 cup soy milk
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 banana, broken into chunks
14 frozen strawberries
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoon white sugar
The sugar we substitute with either stevia or organic agave syrup
We really like this smoothie!

Brooke,
I appologize for misspelling your name. English is my second language…..
I never heard of Paleo diet. Sounds very intriguing. I will definitely learn more about it. May be it will help me with my never ending migraines…
I wonder why pasta is not Paleo. Some really have couple simple ingredients.

It is a great way to eat and I would think it wouldn’t hurt to try for your migraine. Pasta is made from wheat. I use veggies or spaghetti squash for past replacement. You could google more info on Paleo…I found this- https://paleoleap.com/what-is-wrong-with-grains/
