Welcome to my Summer Home Tour Exterior Reveal! I joined The White Buffalo Styling Co. and a group of bloggers sharing our homes for Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours. I love seeing how everyone lightens up and refreshes their homes in the Summer. I personally want to declutter and simplify everything. We have been busy updating the exterior of our home and adding some much needed curb appeal. We have lived in our 1950’s Connecticut Cape for close to a year and a half now and I have been itching to get this done, but it somehow became the last thing we did. We partnered with Lowes on this project. I love so many things about Lowes so it was a natural fit.
We painted the hunter green door when we moved in and all the shutters thinking that would do the trick and make me like the exterior. But no. It was just a little band-aid. The thing that bothered me the most was this iron railing. Oh yes and the cement walk-up, maybe THAT bothered me the most…it was pretty bad. It didn’t feel finished, kind of an after thought.
We changed out the iron railing with new white wood railing from Lowes along with a pebble walk-up, new front door and finished it off with plants and a few accessories. I am in love with the simple updates we did for not much money. I love white houses and wanted to create a light white feeling without having to reface the entire exterior. I am sharing the reveal photos today, you can find the complete DIY details HERE.
Hydrangeas are my favorite flower. Thankfully the previous home owners did leave us with some gorgeous plants. Roses and two large hydrangea bushes that haven’t started blooming just yet. But when they do I cut the heads in the back of the plant and bring them inside to enjoy, another reason to love summer, free flowers. This little plant I found at Lowes and it has done well in the shade of my porch. I had it sitting down by our chairs and it did not like the heat of the sun.
I had to add a flag to the front our our home. We live in a sweet little town that is so patriotic and has a lot of history. I have never seen such patriotism starting Memorial day through the summer. It makes me so happy to live where we live and see the love for our country.
My girls live in swim suits as soon as they get home from school. This one found her way to where I was and I put her to work.
Planter boxes from Lowes are one of my favorite additions. I love that I can see the topiaries when we are inside from my front room window.
We made sure to keep the pineapple door knocker that was original to our 1950’s house and put it back on the door. Pineapples in decor symbolize “welcome and “hospitality” I don’t know a better spot to share that message than on a front door!
Make sure to check HERE for all the DIY details that I did and items I used from Lowes. If you are new to my blog here is a little tour and glimpse of our home below.
We recently remodeled our backyard deck. We kept the nautical feel and similar touches to our front porch. Read more of that HERE.
This was one of the first areas we remodeled when we moved into our home. You can read more about our kitchen remodel HERE and see the before photos too.
I am working on some updates and adding summer touches to our front room that I will be sharing soon. Until then you can view my spring updates HERE.
My girls bedroom is always so bright and cheery. I recently folded down their bedding and simplified it for the hot months. Check out the rest of their shared bedroom HERE.
I can’t mention my daughters bedroom without sharing our little baby boys nursery HERE who is now 6 weeks old!
We just updated our family room that doubles as a guest room you can see that HERE. You can see a complete tour of our home HERE with bathrooms and the master bedroom.
Thank you for coming by our summer home tour and seeing the changes we made to our exterior. Next up on the Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours is Place Of My Taste and follow along for the rest of the week for some amazing inspiration.

So beautiful and classic. It’s amazing what substantial columns and a railing can do. Love that front door so much too.

Do you know how many times I have walked by a drink dispenser in Goodwill, etc and didn’t buy it because it didn’t have a top? The next time I see one I will definitely buy it. I think you are located in the Northeast – maybe Connecticut as am I. I was wondering how the pebble sidewalk worked out with all the snow? We have to do something and that would be something we could do ourselves. I also have a cape and I love what you did to your home.

That is so funny, I bought it at good will and passed it up one time before and then thought how cute it would be on my porch! A lot of people have the pebbles with the snow around here. I am going to ask them and get back to you:) I haven’t had snow with it yet!

Thank you Grace, I would appreciate that.

This is stunning! We live in military housing, so we can’t do anything permanent to the house, but I love the things you added and I’m totally inspired to add some bright touches to our front walk and make it more appealing. I adore pineapples so pretty sure I’ll be on the hunt for something like you have on your front door, as well! I read about the history of the pineapple in New England when I was there this spring, and we’ll be moving there in the fall.
