Are you ready for picture overload? I am pretty excited about this new kitchen remodel! But first you need to see these before pictures of what it looked like right before we moved in January this year. You can also read about the remodel process HERE and where we have come from the past five weeks on this six week design challenge.

It was pretty depressing being in that old kitchen. It felt dark, dated and dirty. I was already going through a big adjustment moving 2,000 miles away from family and friends that I love so much, so this kitchen didn’t help my outlook on life. I needed my white kitchen! I had a white kitchen in my old kitchen that we built in Utah about 8 years ago.

I am a firm believer that your surroundings effect your mood and state of happiness. I especially know that to be true with this new kitchen. It is lighter, more functional and much more enjoyable to be in. Going to the white cabinets just feels like home and us. My happiness jumped a lot of points.

We added this little pendant light as you enter our kitchen off of the hall. The light switch to the kitchen is over by the door to the deck, and in the middle of night or early morning someone could seriously get hurt without a light. I have had this light for a long time.
You can find similar things HERE

I wrote about my butcher counter tops HERE I have loved them more than I thought I would. We have left water on them over night and I panicked thinking there would be a big water spot but to my surprise there was nothing! You can find similar gold hardware like mine HERE (mine are discontinued, but same size I linked).

This light is from Ikea, I love the touch of gold and the cord with the black to tie in my floors. You can find it HERE

I used silly putty in my Utah home to attach plates to my tile, but in the East it is too humid so I had to use command strips. I also used silly putty on my fridge to attach the frame. It works great.

You can find my kitchen faucet HERE. My sink is from Ikea you can find it HERE. I was pretty adamant that the sink be under-mounted. I like to be able to just wipe the crumbs right into the sink. Not to mention I love the look of it. This sink has been great, you can lay a cookie sheet flat in it and wash a baby…everything you dream of in a farm sink but for less than $200!

My tile is called Palazzo Florentina Deco tile in 12×12 in the Castle Graphite Finish you can shop it HERE. You can find similar tile HERE. We clean them with vinegar and water.

I love my GE Appliances, they are retro and so fun. The pricing was also very affordable. Find them HERE.

We live in Connecticut, about an hour from New York City. I found this antique license plate and thought it would be a perfect tribute to our new home.

I grabbed these cup holders from Home Depot and mounted them under our cabinets for extra storage. And I love the look too.

The previous home owners had their dining table in a bedroom that we are now using as our master bedroom. We had to be able to have an eat-in kitchen. I love to have my girls around me as I make meals and they can read, color and work on homework. The settee also adds a lot of extra seating too and makes a cozy spot to stay awhile. The X-back chairs you can find HERE.

My tile is called Florentina Deco, I wrote more about it HERE I found my marble top dining table at an antique shop, but you can find some similar in the bottom of this post.

I love the storage this gold bookcase offers. We actually use a lot of the pieces everyday and love how they look displayed. You can find it HERE.

This light was a cream distressed finish. Once my cabinets were finished the light looked dirty. So I went ahead and painted it white, it looks much better and brightens up the space even more. You can find the light HERE.

I have a thing with collecting anything animal. I spotted these whale salad tongs at Anthropolgie and they had to come home with me.

I spray painted my light switch covers gold, you can read about my favorite gold spray paint to use HERE. You can find my favorite Hello Sunshine art HERE. My back door is painted Gray from Benjamin Moore.

The old kitchen made me want to cry for you! This new room is incredible, it doesn't even look like the same space! You are incredibly talented dear friend! I love that no detail is overlooked in your designs!
I also loved that you painted your light! I have been considering doing the same to mine! Was it hard with how chippy it was? I have even considered painting the metal gold!
Thank you Randi! That kitchen had no hope to band aid it:)
It was way easy to paint and you don't even notice the chips. I thought about gold on the metal but like it with my floors. Good could be cute for you!

Just incredible! Best use of the cement floor tile that I've seen! Also love the retro GE Artistry appliances. Could you tell us where you purchased your wood countertops from? And how they are holding up? Did you get the
"Varnique" finish?
Great work! Thanks so much for
sharing
Thank you! I wrote about my counter tops here- I have really enjoyed them and they have held up well even with leaving water on over night

Thank you! I updated my blog post about it:) thanks for asking!
Absolutely love everything! And I live in a small house, too! Where did you purchase light above your sink?
Thank you! I updated my post with that info. Thank you for asking!
I love it! The marble table is exactly what I am looking for. Can you share where you got that? Thanks
Thank you. I bought it at an antique store in Connecticut. I have seen similar at west elm. And the company design legacy (wholesale store but you could find s store that carries it)
I've looked at your kitchen a hundred times, I love every single detail! Sorry it took so long to comment! One of my favorites from the ORC for sure!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to say something Laurie! Appreciate it đ
Love your stool! Where did you purchase it? Or is it homemade? If so, would love a how-to!
It really is interesting to be able to have so many different things that can be done with kitchen remodeling. I personally think that so many of the different things that need to be done include just having a different design in each room. Hopefully this will be something that ends up being a big help to those who are in need of inspiration. Thank you for sharing.

Great and easy-to-understand tutorial, thnx!

Hi Brooke! I found your blog while researching the GE refrigerator you purchased. Your kitchen is so charming and homey. I would love to know how you like the fridge after having it for a while. I am about to build a small cottage and am using a vintage Chambers range. We love to cook and I really need some real-life feedback on how much the fridge holds in top and bottom…any chance you could help me out? Would you consider sending me a couple of pics of the inside? I want to make an informed decision. Thank you so much in advance for any info you feel inclined to share.
Amy
I just found your post by way of Town and Country Living, and I am in love with your kitchen!!!! So many wonderful, cost saving ideas – you have given me hope that I can do the same with mine!!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment and so glad you found me!
Hi, Brooke
My name is Brooke too, so that’s weird to say. Your entire home is beyond amazing! I scour over your blog and instagram account constantly. Thank you for such gorgeous inspiration. Can you tell me where you got that gray step stool in your kitchen? It is absolutely perfect and I wanted to try and find something similar. Thanks!
Brooke:) thank you so much for commenting and I appreciate your support!
The gray step stool is from a company called Bramble CO. I believe it is discontinued….I bought it at The Black Goose Design a store in Utah
Beautiful kitchen! Two questions: do you have a microwave? If so, where is it hidden? (We are looking to relocate our microwave & install a hood over the range). Also, what color white are your cabinets? Thank you!!!
Hello! I dont actually have a microwave, I dont use one.
My cabinets were selected from the cabinet company. Similar to Mountain Peak White from Benjamin Moore.
I am remodeling my 1952 kitchen this summer! I’m going for the all white look and probably a checkerboard linoleum (not vinyl) floor. My questions for you is: how have the GE appliances held up for you? I love how they look (and the price!). Do you have any regrets about them? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
P.S. I’m originally from Utah too (SLC), now living in Oregon. Miss those Rockies so much!
How fun, love checkerboard. I have honestly loved the appliances. We had an issue with the dishwasher not working but they sent someone right out and replaced the door and it has been fine. Oven has been perfect. Fridge I love. We added ice-maker to the freezer and the ice does get stuck behind the ice bucket. Other than that I really like the look and price!
Hi Brooke, I read through the post and comments, but didn’t see a resource for your hardware. Can you tell me where it’s from and what it’s called? Thanks!
Hello! Sorry, I added that link to my post. Here it is http://amerock.com/128mm-pull-16681.html
Hi Brooke – this link no longer works. I was wondering if you could tell me the size you got in this (how many inches are they) and was the color brushed bronze or golden champagne? The ones you have on your cabinets are EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! Thank you đ
Hi! Here is a link to some similar and my same size:) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O4KLN9Y/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=nestwithgrac-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00O4KLN9Y&linkId=5f62b30b46e8bf7f9c11123512eb97db
Awesome kitchen!!! I love your soap dispenser, small cake stand and vase! Where are they from?! Thanks!
Erica
Thank you! The soap dispenser is Ikea, the other one on the cake pedestal is an antique find, that cake pedestal I have had for years. I bet you could find one at Home Goods or google mini cake pedestal:) best of luck!

Everything is so beautiful! Where is your Roman shade from?
One more question! What is your kitchen paint color?
It is Cloud Cover from Benjamin Moore:) That is what my entire house is.
Hi!
We are in the early stages of beginning a kitchen remodel and it’s amazing how your kitchen is almost identical to what I hope to achieve. Your kitchen is beautiful!
One question though, I didn’t see anywhere in your post or any of the comments anything about a microwave. Did you forgo a microwave? Or do you have it tactfully hidden in a cabinet somewhere? I know they aren’t beautiful but I frequently use mine so I’m trying to decide where to put it.
Thanks!!!!
Hi! how exciting for you! I don’t have a microwave. We just don’t use one and opted not to put one in. Plus there really isnt a lot of space:)
Hi, I’ve looked all over and I just cannot find a link or description of your backsplash tile and grout choice. Sorry to bother you again (I commented on Insta yesterday) but I’m just so on the fence about choosing our subway tile, beveled edges or flat, dark or white grout?! Love how yours looks though! Thanks!
I will have to update it:)
It is a beveled edge- I just felt it looked a little nicer than the flat. I did a dark gray grout. I think it was charcoal. I love a dark grout with subway tile.
Hope that helps!
Hi! You’re kitchen is stunning! Way to go!
I was wondering if you have done a post on how to undercount an ikea sink? We are renovating our kitchen and my heart longs for an undercount farmhouse without the crazy price tag! Any tips and tricks? Love everything about it!
Thanks!
That is “undermount” btw. Ahh! Autocorrect! ;-p
Thank you! I shared a link to one I saw on this post- http://nestingwithgrace.com/6-week-one-room-challenge-week-4/
Hopefully that helps! Good luck in your reno.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! XO
