Alright are you ready to see the other bedroom makeover we did this week?? I have to say this it is a HUGE transformation. This is Rachel and Jeff’s master bedroom that Kevin and I gifted to them. We recently made over their oldest sons (Lukes) bedroom after Rachel had emailed me when I asked for submissions for a room makeover. And we just couldn’t help but do ALL their bedrooms. They are a very loving, kind deserving family. Their youngest son, Patrick has special needs and is the cutest boy. We really felt they all deserved a cozy spot to lay their heads at night after working so hard. This master bedroom LOOKS like it cost a ton of money. But really the main additions are the wallpaper and adding the yummiest bedding ever!!!! Are you ready to see it?? Let’s look at the bedroom before….
Thank you The Company Store for sponsoring this post
Master Bedroom BEFORE-
Master Bedroom AFTER-
Yes, it is the same room!!! And yes, we went from THREE dressers down to ONE! Not only does the room LOOK good on the outside but the drawers look good inside to. Clothes were donated and sorted. We added new bedding, a rug, wallpaper, raised the curtain rod, adding curtain panels, new nightstands and lamps! I will go over all the details. And ALL of this was a surprise to them! I didn’t show them anything before I ordered it. I just paid attention to their design style, colors she had in other areas of the home and what she wore!
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #1 Have a Plan
Always start with a plan and one main inspiration piece for the room. Ordering all the bedding, rug and window treatments online could end you up in a big mess. But if you take the time to put the images together in a graphic you can visualize how it is all going to come together. You can see my simple design plan or vision board below!
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #2- Create a Focal Point
I started with the wallpaper first, because that was going to be my focal point. It is peel and stick wallpaper that is so easy to apply. Like a giant sticker!!! I decided to go with a navy because I noticed that Rachel had some navy mixed in her front room. This was all a surprise to them! They came home and saw the wild wallpaper for the first time and fell in love!!! Tempaper was so kind to donate it for this makeover. And my sweet mom ended up installing it all on her own while I finished Patricks room. So this was my moms first time installing wallpaper on her own. That shows how easy it really can be!
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #3 Fluffy Bedding
After I selected the wallpaper. I picked out the bedding! I knew I wanted to partner with The Company Store, because that is what I just did on my bedding and I loved the quality. The “look” I was going for was more of a monochromatic, but with blues this time (I did pinks in my room). The Company Store has such a wide variety of bedding options. I really like that they make it VERY easy to shop online for bedding. You can search the reviews, search by the material, color etc. This is one of the biggest reasons why the room came together so well! I could really see the colors and patterns and knew that they would mix well tougher.
Bedding Breakdown (PS- The Company Store as their Friends and Family Sale going on now, 25% off and free shipping site wide code- J19FRIENDS)
Navy Quilt– this is very soft and amazing quality!!
Navy Quilted Euro Shams– I like to have a few things match in my bedding. So with this I did the Euro shams the same as the quilt, that is always a good guide.
Linen Ruffle Duvet– LOVE the ruffle detail on the duvet and the material of this duvet. You cannot go wrong with a linen duvet. And the shams come in the set!
Pink Ruffle Pillow 20″– I actually had this that I wasn’t using and last minute I decided to grab it to add a pop of pink!
Euro Velvet Pillow– if you know me you know I think texture is a must- so adding in a velvet pillow is an easy way to do that.
Bed Skirt– since they don’t have a bed frame- the mattress is just sitting on bed rails a bed skirt is really a must-have in this case. Love the simple boxed look of this one.
Inserts-
Pillow Inserts– their pillow inserts were all really great quality and fullness. I typically like to go up a size in my insert, but I didn’t with this and they worked out great.
Duvet Insert– the duvet insert is really fluffy- essential!! Also big thing that you might not know to look for is that the insert and the over both have attachments or ties in each corner so it stays in place!
Can we just stop and appreciate the mini ruffle on the Linen Ruffle Duvet?!! That little extra detail adds to the look of a fluffy, cozy bed!
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #4 The Right Window Treatments-
If you look at the before photo below of the bedroom, you can see the drapery rod is ON the molding. We simply moved the rod brackets outside the molding and above the window. Try to never put your drapery rod on your trim. Take a look at the after and notice the rod placement. This little tip will transform your bedroom.
Doesn’t it make such a difference?? We added THESE Linen Curtain Panels from The Company Store, that add a lot of drama! Plus without having a bed frame the curtain panels are giving the room a focal point and height that a bed normally would. Plus the curtain panels are absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend them if you are looking for curtain panels. Love anything linen.
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #5 Add a Rug
A rug is a must in transforming a bedroom! Even on carpet. I like adding a rug to define the space. And it is also great to put on carpet that you don’t love. Easy way to “fix” the look of a room! The Company Store also has rugs! I found this Rug from The Company Store. It is a jute rug with navy wool woven through. Brining in the colors in the bedding to the rug really brings it all together.
(PS- that dresser was giving me some stress! I was worried it wouldn’t fit up the small narrow stairs! Thankfully it did. You might recognize the dresser from our girls bedroom- we passed it onto them as a gift!)
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #6 The Right Lighting-
Accent lighting is really essential to the calming feeling in a bedroom. And you don’t have to spend a lot to do this! Check thrift stores and remember spray paint is your best friend. Luckily I found both of these pink lamps at Goodwill! They were $15 each, no spray paint needed. The pink is just the right amount of color. It was a very lucky find. Biggest tip is finding the right size lamp, before they had too small of lamps for a king bed. Scale is the most important in a lamp because you can always change the color and the shade for not a lot of money.
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #7 Have a Place for Everything
For us to makeover Rachel and Jeffs room and just “make it pretty” really wouldn’t be a makeover. Because it could go back to looking the way it did before and you wouldn’t be able to appreciate the gorgeous new bedding and lamps. Rachel and Jeff just needed a place for things. Rachel even said “we aren’t crazy, if we had a spot for it, we would put it there!” The did have three dressers but they didn’t have a specific place for workout clothes, business clothes, socks etc. My friend Brandi who is a professional organizer volunteered to help us go through the clothes.
Day one we took everything OUT. And Rachel and Jeff went thought the clothes and decided what should stay, what needed to be donated and what just needed to go in a different room (towels, kids clothes etc.)
Day 2 Brandi and I came back and folded everything the “military or Maria Kondo” way. So everything would be put in the drawers standing up, not laying on top of each other.
You can see in the photo above how before one drawer had like three pieces of clothing and now there triple the amount and you can actually see what you want to take out!
Transforming a Bedroom- Tip #8 Find the Right Size Furniture
Lastly find the right size furniture is essential to transforming your room. Before they had too small of nightstands for the room and the bed size. Again finding the right scale furniture does not have to cost a lot. When we scored the pink lamps we also found her two nightstands that were $50 total!!! Scale is what matters. And We added the larger dresser rather than three that were too small. Plus the larger nightstand also doubles as clothing storage!
The round side table you might not have considered a “night stand” nut the height is perfect. So really anything goes if it is the right size. We spray painted the wood nightstand in a Chalk Paint (yes it is a spray paint) and I did not sand them at all and finished it with a clear coat spray paint. Easiest project that again transformed the room!
They did have the built-in dresser in the wall that we cleared out and made better use of for linen storage.
And I gave them a floor mirror I wasn’t using o go beside a pretty wood chair they had. I actually recovered the seat on the chair in THIS extra pillow cover I had from The Company Store! You don’t always need fabric. A pillow case will do the trick!
I hope that gave you some ideas to transform your bedroom. We also know that Rachel and Jeff love their new bedroom and feel completely spoiled with The Company Store cozy bedding! It is well deserved.

Wow, this is so incredibly gorgeous. And cozy. Is it strange that I’ve followed you for so long that I can actually spot the items that came from your own home? 😊
Wowza!!! So fun to watch these make overs. This looks awesome!!
Looks so cozy and inviting, especially the comfy looking bed! And I love the wallpaper! Your mom did a great job!
You have the Midas Touch!! Oh how I wish you could zip to IL and give me just a few tips to give my bedroom a little finishing facelift!! I love everything you do!!! And you and Kevin are so wonderfully generous. ❤️ Love it all!
Oh thank you so much Amy!!!!!
Good job! You are such a beautiful person-inside and out! What a beautiful bedroom and bedrooms! You were so generous and selfless designing this room and gifting things from your own home. (Mom and hubby, too!). As great as this couple feels about their new room, I would venture you feel even better. The old saw is still true today: tis better to give than receive.
Brooke,
You knocked it out of the park again! This room is unreal. When is HGTV going to give you a show? Off to check out the Company Store!
Brooke, I just study and study these rooms you do. You are so talented and I love all the tips. I feel like I’m pretty good at decorating and making a cozy home, but you just inspire me to be even better. I love that you posted tip #8 because it was immediately obvious to me that the larger furniture (nightstands and dresser) looks so much better! I think a lot of people fill spaces with little furniture pieces and they end up looking cluttered instead of cute. This bedroom is such a haven now!
The room is so beautiful. The wallpaper is outstanding as is all the other areas. Bless you both for doing this! Also, thanks for the tips – we can all used those.
Hi! I love this room & the wallpaper! Can you tell me where it is from! Thank you!
Hi!! Yes! You can find it here- https://tempaper.com/looking-glass-colbalt-blue-watercolor-kaleidoscope-removable-wallpaper
It looks beautiful!! Anything you touch turns out amazing!
You are amazing! What an incredible transformation! You always inspire me. I’m ordering the dresser you got for your girls for one of my daughter’s. Also, the moon shelf in Finns room. Thank you for sharing. You are a blessing to so many people and make the world a better place.
You literally did nothing to the white dresser before chalk spray painting it?? Is it really that easy? Please share…:)
yes!!! SO easy! Zero sanding. You could seal it after with a clear coat spray paint
