Bedding is a topic I love to talk about and get asked about often.
How do you get your bed so fluffy?
How do you know what patterns to mix with what?
What are the bedding essentials?
Well friends, I am here to help you!!! I will share how to get started when selecting your bedding and what some Bedding Essentials are! We have had white bedding for awhile now, which is timeless and great for any season. With white bedding you can simply change out your center pillow and add or take away a throw depending on the season and it instantly feels different! So if you want a bedding color to last you years and you not get bored with it, stick with white and rotate one pillow! Easy. But I was inspired a couple months ago by a photo I saw of a monochromatic bedding look, that I really wanted to try for our master bedroom. The result? LOVE!

I always suggest making a design plan no matter the size of your project. This will save you from returns, wasted time and not being completely happy with the end result. Your design plan doesn’t have to be anything fancy. I simple screen shot pieces of the bedding I am thinking of using to see if the colors all flow together. Especially with a monochromatic bedding look, you want some depth of color, or I should say the look I was going for. (My inspiration photo was from HERE).
I did a blue monochromatic version Navy Euro Shams- Indigo // Blue Quilt- True Navy // Blue Sheets // Blue Accent Pillows // Duvet- Sky Blue // Sky Blue Euro
Gray version- Duvet- Shale // Euro Sham- Gray // Blanket- Shale // Accent Pill0w- Cement // Sham-Shale
Fluffy Monochromatic Bedding-
I really love how it came together!!! I found everything from The Company Store. I will break down the basics of our bedding and how I got that fluffy bedding look that we all want to just jump into!
Bedding Basics-
SHEETS- I have slept in a lot of different sheets. I personally always go with white sheets. BUT I went with a blush color for my new bedding look. Which I do think going with sheets that match your top quilt does look best. (My new sheets didn’t arrive yet, but I ordered THESE Percale Organic Sheets because I wanted to do organic this time and they come in a quartz/blush color). We have had linen sheets, which took some getting used to because they can feel “scratchy” at first but they soften over time. We did have to replace those because where Kevin’s feet rub, they did wear out (which I was surprised by). Probably our instant favorite sheets to sleep in have been a Sateen materiel, like THESE Sateen Sheets.
QUILT– We do sheets then a quilt on top of that. And that is what we basically sleep with every night. I like to pull the duvet up, but Kevin doesn’t always on his side. I went with THIS Cotton Weave Quilt, it is light weight and great for year-round or just to use as a summer blanket. I really like all the color options. It is a weave, so you have to be careful not to snag it. If you are looking for one that won’t snag and is a little heavier weight, THIS Gossamer Blanket is similar to one I had before and LOVED for years.
DUVET COVER- A duvet cover is basically like a large pillow case for your duvet insert. A duvet insert is meant to have a cover. I ordered the above duvet cover and it is great!! I picked it for the color HERE is BLUSH. I also really like a nice the look of THIS linen duvet, a linen duvet has alway been my favorite materiel for a duvet. And plus the boxed edging is soooooo cute, it just doesn’t come in a blush.
DUVET INSERT- I went with THIS Organic Cotton Duvet Insert in the Extra Warmth. I do have a queen bed, so I went with a queen duvet cover. But for my insert I sized up to a King insert so it would be extra fluffy. If you have a king bed, in the past I have done two light-weight king duvet inserts to make it extra fluffy. They stay in place because the duvet comes with a spot to attach the corners to each corner of the duvet cover. (See photo below).
EURO SHAMS- Queen beds I do two Euro Shams and for King Beds I do three. For this bedding I used THESE Euro linen in the blush color. Linen is my all-time favorite material for a bed. Does that mean all of my bedding is linen? No. But I really like the texture it brings to a bed, even just with some accent pillows, like I have above. I have had linen sheets for awhile and they did get better as time went on, at first they feel “scratchy” and might take some getting used to. But linen is twice as durable as cotton, so that is why it does most more. Linen is also very cooling, it can absorb as much as 20% of its weight in moisture before feeling wet. Linen is also a renewable resource and it is fully biodegradable, which is pretty awesome. I need more linen everything in my life!!!
ACCENT PILLOWS- I just did two smaller pillows in the front for my accent pillows. I normally like a little larger scale, but the color I wanted only came in the 16×20″, I think they look great, like one larger kidney pillow (find them HERE). For a king bed, they would be too small, you would want at least the 16″x20″.
SLEEPING PILLOWS- For the pillows we sleep with we wanted to test out THESE Organic Down Pillows. I really like it and the fact that is organic. I also like that they have a great Pillow Guide HERE that I have never seen before. I got the density for a tummy sleeper.
MATTRESS PAD- I recommend getting a mattress cover it will extend the life of your mattress. And for your mattress warranty to not be void you have to have a mattress cover. We have THIS one and really like it.
It was really sweet because ALL of my kids completed my new blush bedding and they have never said anything in the past. I think because it feels noticeably different and they really love how cozy it is!!
