A Teen Bedroom Makeover with Color, Charm & a More Grown-Up Feel

This bedroom makeover was such a fun transformation. It was the bedroom of a little sister, now the older sister was taking it over and I wanted to help the room grow alongside her. We wanted the space to still feel colorful, feminine, and full of personality, but in a way that felt older, cozier, and a little more elevated than her previous little girl room. And big part was removing the window seat that was just a place to create clutter.

Room Before

The room originally for the younger sister had pastel pink walls and sweet details, but it was ready for a refresh that felt more mature while still keeping that playful charm.

Room After

The biggest change in the room was definitely the wallpaper. We covered the walls in a dark pink wallpaper that instantly made the entire space feel moodier and more sophisticated. The deeper color added so much richness to the room while still keeping that feminine feel she loves.

A Statement Green Chandelier

One of my favorite details in the room is the beautiful green chandelier (it comes larger, and for such a great value). It adds the prettiest contrast against the pink walls. I love using lighting as a statement piece in bedrooms, especially teen rooms. It makes the room feel elevated and fun.

Replacing the Window Seat with a Vanity

One of the biggest functional changes we made was removing the window seat. Instead, we added a vanity and chair, which instantly made the room feel more age-appropriate and useful. We hemmed and hung cafe curtains for the window. She never had curtains before and honestly didn’t mind, but these give her a little more privacy.

It gives her a dedicated getting-ready space while also helping the room feel more mature and personalized!

For the vanity desk area, we wanted it to function as both a desk and a get-ready station. We added a vanity mirror, calendar, pens, makeup brushes, push pins and storage keep everything cute, organized, and functional

We hung two bulletin boards, and I love how they turned out! Teens love having a place to hang photos, treasures, and art in a way that feels cute, organized, and purposeful. We also added some life and greenery with a new plant in a cute woven basket.

The Bed Wall

For the art above her bed, I hung these beautiful floral pieces. Tulip and Paperwhite Botanicals. The darker background tied in perfectly with the bed and helped anchor the whole room. Above the art, we added a picture light and I LOVE it. It’s battery operated and comes with a remote, which made it so easy to install and gives the room the prettiest warm glow at night.

The bed became another major focal point in the room. We chose a beautiful dark wood bed with so much spindle detail. For bedding, we layered soft florals and rich color to create that cozy, collected look I always love.

First a little extra comfort, and to protect the mattress, we always add a mattress pad. The sheets are white with delicate green floral details, which keep the bed feeling fresh and light underneath all the layers. On top, we added our favorite fluffy duvet (extra fill) with light blue duvet cover with pink and green florals that ties the entire color palette together beautifully.

To finish the bed, we layered in matching blue floral shams and dark pink euro pillows (euro inserts) for added depth. The combination feels feminine, cozy, and a little more grown-up while still being playful. These are our favorite fluffy inserts.

Keeping Some Original Pieces

We decided to keep her white nightstands (similar), which I actually love mixed with the darker wallpaper and wood tones. Matching blue velvet lamps (another option).

To ground the room, we added a tan rug with the prettiest floral detail around the edges. It softens the darker colors in the room while still bringing in subtle pattern and texture.

We also kept her dresser (similar), which worked perfectly in the room. I love that it’s taller and doesn’t take up too much floor space. She already had this pink swan filled with dried flowers from her front yard, and it fit the room so beautifully. I love all the dried floral touches throughout the space.

Of course, we added a diffuser on a cute tray because that’s basically a must in every room makeover. Along with a lamp (similar) that perfectly matches the cafe curtains.

Keeping Meaningful Pieces

We brought in extra storage with a glass and gold shelf and styled it with baskets, books, and her jewelry holder. Plant basket for a garbage! I wanted the room to feel organized without losing the cozy, collected vibe.

One of my favorite details might be the flower wall. She has dried every bouquet she’s gotten from school dances, so we hung this rod and tied pretty ribbons to display them. There’s even room to add more over time. I remember doing this when I was in high school, so it felt extra special creating a space for those memories.

The final result feels colorful, cozy, layered, and so much more reflective of this new stage of life and she loves it! It still feels feminine and fun, but in a way that feels timeless enough to grow with her for years to come.
