With my other two babies I used a bassinet for about 2-3 months. In our other home our master bedroom was further away from the nursery so it made sense to have a bassinet. This time the nursery is pretty close to the master, basically I could lay in bed and touch the other room, maybe exaggerating a little, but honestly it is like 10 steps away. I think that I just love the look of bassinets, they just make me yearn for a baby! Cribs are sweet, but not like a yummy little bassinet. Not to mention the convince. So I spent some time, more than I should have on Pinterest looking at bassinets or I would search them on Instagram by hashtag #bassinet. These were my favorites and also I couldn’t help myself I bought one.
This one, well whats not to love about this space. The wallpaper and the rattan crib, love it. (source)
The shape of this is just perfect and it is so tiny. (source)
I seriously considered this macrame hanging crib. I love the look, the spot I was putting it already had a hanging light, so it might be too much hanging from the ceiling. (source)
This is probably one of my favorite bassinets. It is a Moses basket sitting inside a little rocker. I already have a Moses basket that I snatched at Good Will, it looks exactly like this one. You can find new Moses baskets HERE and they come with a liner, just cut the little dorky bows off. I didn’t realize I could get a rocker separate for it or I probably would have done this. The rockers are so affordable you can find one HERE for $45! I plan on using the Moses basket that I have to lay him in when we are upstairs.
Are you ready to see the one I actually bought?
Here she is! One day I decided to search for used ones. I went onto my new favorite Buying and Selling App Close5 where I buy and sell used items from furniture to clothes. I talked about it HERE too. I like that you can search for something that you want. I typed in “bassinet” and this little cutie showed up in my area. They were selling it for $75, I noticed it had been posted close to a month ago, I knew I could offer a little less than listed, I offered $50. Once you make an offer you can start a private conversation, and they accepted my offer! It was 5 minutes from my gym, so it was a no brainer. You can download the Close5 app for an iPhone HERE and an Android HERE.
I thought that I would leave it as is. As you could tell I loved that rattan look by the other bassinets that I had found. I brought it home and put it right into our master bedroom. There aren’t many spots for it in our tiny bedroom. I just didn’t love the rattan finish next to our dresser and it looked more orange in my space. So I decided to paint it.
I used Manor White from Mud Paint. I chose this paint because it has low voc, safe to breath and green compliant. I love the color, it is a soft white. I watered it down for the first coat to get into the nooks and crannies of the rattan. Then I did a second coat that was not watered down to get better coverage. It took me total 3 to 4 hours, that I spaced over a couple of days. I am really happy with the end result.
I created a little nook in our master bedroom for the baby bassinet. I recently painted this tall dresser in the same Mud Paint as the bassinet. I have a new slipcover coming for the rocker I already have in our bedroom. I really lightened up this space and added this gorgeous sketch of a women from Minted, you can find it HERE. I love the modern frame and style that contrasts the painted pieces.
I was going to order a little pad to put on the bottom. I got this sheepskin rug from Mod Allure and it fit perfectly in the bottom. I did some research to make sure that sheepskin was safe for babies. I was happily surprised by what I found. A study was done finding that babies who sleep on animal fur such as sheepskins in the first three months have a decreased risk for asthma at age 10. These kids are also less likely to have hay fever and wheezing, according to Time.com. But it did say to be careful putting them on it to sleep once they can roll over to their tummy, you don’t want anything too fluffy to cause SIDS. I will see how he does napping on the sheepskin, I am sure I will be staring at him anyways. Either way the sheepskin will be the perfect thing to lay him on the floor on while he plays and I love the health benefits of the sheepskin. (Mod Allure has different colors and size options in the sheepskin, all drool worthy!)
After I painted my bassinet I came across this one from Pottery Barn, it looks so similar to the one I found. You can find this exact one HERE.
This is more of our master bedroom. We are all very excited for this baby boy and I am sure this is where we will all be spending a lot of our time after he is born, staring at him and enjoying every moment.
Oh my goodness, I didn’t know you were pregnant! Congratulations! And did I see the word him? Is it a boy?!
I love that bassinet! It looks great white. I used a bassinet for my daughter 25 years ago… I love them too.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment.
How lovely!!! The bassinet looks amazing! I have a similar bassinet and am so inspired to to give it a new look using the Mud Paint you recommended…. How much paint should I order?
Thank you! I used one can. It took a lot of paint- I recommend dipping your brush in water to water the paint down a little so it goes further. Good luck!
