Crib to Toddler Big Girl Bed for Niece Evie

My niece, Evie was ready for a big girl bed! She is 3 years old and it was time to pass her crib to her new baby brother. We actually ended up swapping her bedroom with her new brother, Cooper. Made it easy to leave the crib where it was. Her grandma bought her a new bed and I put together a design plan and we gifted her a makeover! I think this room might be my favorite, but I might always say that after a makeover! I REALLY love the wallpaper we did for Evie.

Evie Baby Room Before-

Lucky Evie has a new little brother who needs the crib. We decided instead of moving furniture we would move rooms. This is basically what both rooms looked like, same color on the walls. PS- they were clearly in the middle of playing when I snapped this photo, their home is always so tidy, but also encourages play!

Evie Big Girl Room After-

Ahhhhhh! Can you see why it’s my favorite? Her Twin Bed we had in my girls bedroom in Connecticut, now in our guest room! I love how much light this room gets during the day. Beautiful big window while she plays. I didn’t plan this room with a theme in mind but there accidentally has one…and it’s so fun. What do you think it is?

Wallpaper-

A sweet whimsical room, full of little animals that will spark lots of imaginative play! I fell in love with this wallpaper and and knew I had to hang it all around her room, it was my main inspiration! Great price for peel and stick wallpaper.

Bedding and Bed-

The Company Store, a favorite source for bedding! Let’s break it all down- 
+Mattress Pad– this is cooling and added extra padding to their mattress…a must!
+Sheets– crisp and cool, not to mention incredibly smooth! On a twin bed I just do the fitted sheet, no top.
+Starburst Quilt– surprisingly not too heavy, adds amazing texture to the bedding look. Reminds me of bedding I had when I was little, heirloom quality quilt.
+Gingham Duvet Cover with this duvet insert– that duvet insert is my go-to a must for a fluffy bed!

Twin Bed
I really can’t get over how much I love this Starburst Quilt. When I was younger, maybe 12 I saved up baby-sitting money and bought a similar quilt, wish I had it, or even a photo to show you. Just triggered that memory, I have always been into home decor! (Starburts Euro Sham with Euro Sham Insert (firm).
The pink flamingos act as a cute “accent pillow”! And Evie LOVED them so much!!!

Art and Posters-

Framing posters is an affordable way to add art to a bedroom. I hung posters right on Ella’s bedroom wall to look like wallpaper. In Evie’s bedroom I used these frames for her 18×24 Alphabet Poster.

Light Fixture-

We took down the ceiling fan, it just wasn’t the style we were going for. Instead I wanted to do a pendant light that would make the room feel cozier and compliment the rest of the decor.
Evie’s Light Fixture I don’t think is available, but this light is a really cute look too and this one.
I found a small retro looking fan from Home Goods, great option if they want to generate some air in the room!

Curtains Panels-

While I love this big beautiful window, we also need to make sure Evie gets her beauty sleep. I did TWO of these pink curtains on each side, they are so pretty, plus they are room darkening. I love this curtain rod to block out light on the side!

Rug-

This herringbone rug from the Company store is also reversible!

Decor-

Pink mushroom is so great for extra storage, plus pulls in the pink accents and the playful forest vibe that is going on in this room!
I found this side table on marketplace for $40! The brown would have been nice with the wallpaper, but knew it would it would be really cute if it matched the curtains, and make the vibe feel younger, if it was pink. Kevin took the curtains to The Home Depot and they matched the paint for us.
My friend, Rachel found that cute squirrel lamp for me at Home Goods about a year ago, found a similar one on Amazon, and on Anthropologie. And these acrylic floating wall shelves are nice when you want the books to be the main attraction!
I always create a diffuser station in every bedroom! Evie loves to fill up her diffuser with her mom’s help. Oils are amazing for setting a calming tone and for sleep support (check out all my favorite diffuser options HERE).
I had this leather bunting banner that I hung with tiny nails over the bed and nightstand to group those two areas. It turned out pretty cute!
She had this IKEA dresser, really a classic style that works in most any bedroom. We just dressed it up with new handles giving it a more high end piece. These bunny drawer pulls are such a fun little addition to other little animals around the room.

Hanging Chair-

Over in this corner we hung a hanging chair! Perfect little corner for a chair. You can still easily open the closet doors.
We ended up lowering the hanging chair to about 16″ off the floor so Evie could easily get into it. A leather ottoman is also a great idea next to a hanging chair, place to rest feet and step stool for little ones. Also I recommend putting felt pads on the back of the chair to protect the wall, but a good reminder that it is a chair, now a swing. I told Evie’s mom that when lots of kids are over and excited about the chair, put her new tall giraffe behind the chair to act as a buffer!
We had a rope cut at The Home Depot, used a Stud Finder to find the stud and attached it to the ceiling with this mount, and these long screws that holds 2,000 lbs!
The blue in the hanging chair, tied in perfectly and it even has a “peacock” design. I definitley think she will love this chair far into her teen years!
