Our new gym is basically done! Just need to finish a few more things, then I will share it all in a couple days. We did plant my FAVORITE PORCH PLANT on either side of our new doors. I bet you can guess my favorite porch plant is?? If you guessed Boxwoods, you are right! We live in Utah, zone 5 and we lived in Connecticut, zone 7 and boxwoods did well potted in both those locations.
This is the front of our new gym (sources on gym HERE)! On either side of our door we potted Ornamental Boxwoods, found them at Cactus & Tropicals. I potted them in a pot I bought on clearance at the end of fall. The pots are 20″H x 22″ W and they have a drainage hole, which is essential, especially in an outdoor pot that is in an uncovered area. I linked some great outdoor pots below….
Why I Love Boxwoods for Porches-
- Boxwoods do well in either full to partial sun.
- A boxwood looks good no matter the time of year, spring, summer, fall and winter. They will match your decor.
- They last through the winter! All my boxwoods have survived the winter in their planter pots. If there is an extreme winter I make sure they are under a covered area. Also I still water them weekly even in the winter.
- Boxwoods are slow growing, meaning you won’t have to repot them often.
- They are drought-tolerant, a great thing for a plant to be! They don’t die if you skip a watering.
Boxwoods come in all shapes! This topiary shaped boxwood is a favorite look.
We had boxwood topiaries on our outdoor kitchen, I bought them shaped like that. Then over Christmas I moved them inside….
Boxwoods do great inside or outside!
