Spring is the best time to repot your houseplants! Really you can do it anytime of the year if your plant is outgrowing their current pot. But for best results, wait for growing season, the start of spring. Not only is it good to repot in the next size up, but it is good to refresh the soil. Most ALL my plants stay in the pot they come home in from the nursery, allowing them to get used to their new environment. Besides repotting in the spring, I only repot if I the plant isn’t retaining water, or root bound (roots are taking over). Today I am repotting two of my Ficus Triangularius plants.

Step Two- Find a Planter. This could be step one, either way, both are required in this repotting process. Get a planter, the next size up from what your plant is currently in. This doesn’t mean you need to go buy an expensive planter. You can simply get the next size up in the same plastic grow pot. I am using a 5 gallon plastic planter I got from our local nursery, you can find at The Home Depot or Lowes too. Most importantly you want your planter to have a drainage hole for excess water.
