You know the feeling where you spend lots of time dreaming and planning something, but when it comes time to ACTUALLY do it, you start getting cold feet? That may have been the story of my master bedroom. We painted our walls black. I have to say I wasn’t 100% sure of it. Then our contractor said “are you sure??” And I was like “YES!” (fake it til you make it!)–But secretly I was thinking…I sure hope it looks good. oh. my. gosh. It looks amazing!!!! I am so happy with how it turned out. I can’t even tell you. So how about I just show you. Come on into our new master bedroom!!
Thank you The Company Store for sponsoring this post
The black we used is Tricorn Black, the same as our new banquette. But the difference is the sheen. We went with a flat finish in our master and we did a semi-gloss 0n our banquette. Just two different looks. I actually based the color around THIS stripe coverlet from The Company Store, it flows so well in your master bathroom (sharing that soon). I always recommend starting with some sort of inspiration before you start buying things. Bedding is a good place to start!
Yes, you might notice one big change. We got a new bed. I LOVED our fabric bed. It just wasn’t the right bed for this small bedroom and style of home. So we opted for a bed without a footboard, just a wrap around bed frame. It really made the room feel bigger changing the bed and also created more space to walk around on both sides. We just lean on our pillows from The Company Store for support (love their inserts HERE, the firm density).
So along with new walls and the season change I ordered new bedding from one of my favorites for bedding- The Company Store. I love their quality and their prices, especially since they do sales often! Check out all the bedding links below.
Changing up your pillows on your bed or painting your room is a great way to get a “new look” without having to spend a ton of money! I also like to add plants to bedrooms to add some life and to improve the air quality!

I do have THIS Organic Cotton Allergy 12 in. Mattress Protector (I want to get a new organic mattress, but not sure what one so this has been a good solution until then)

When you have quality bedding inserts it really is what makes your bed. I have had the same inserts for a long time. They are an investment, but one you will use for years. I have had mine for over 10 years! You can easily wash inserts too when needed (mine are all from The Company Store linked above!)
A rug is essential tooling a room together and grounding the bed so it doesn’t look like it is floating in the middle of the room. I have a 5×7 and layered it over another rug with some fringe to fill the space a little more. (check out my rug tips here). And our floors were sanded down, bleached and stained (read about that here).
We also added shiplap to our ceiling. If you remember we had faux shiplap wallpaper on our ceiling before. It looked great. But since we added real shiplap all over I felt it should match. Shiplap is painted in Pure White from Sherwin Williams, same color as our trim. We added a new low dresser to our room with a Frame TV. It really makes the room feel bigger now- Shop the rest of our Bedroom HERE!

I love how moody and cozy this feels. Your old bed is still at the top of my wishlist, but this new frame is so cool!
