I am so thankful for your encouraging words on the shed makeover. Just by taking the time to appreciate not the design, but notice the hard work that goes into something is really a gift so many of you posses. You know it makes you a DAY-MAKER! And if there is something to strive to be it is that! My entire blog and life is about NOT striving for perfection. It is about doing it better than before. If you are working on a project and you have done all the research, created a design board, found an inspiration picture. Go for it! Don’t over think it. And most importantly don’t compare or question yourself when it is done.
Be proud of the work you created and the fact that it is done!
Congrats.
I guarantee it is better than before!
Yesterday was such a nice day. The kids played on the play-set and had water going down the slide. All the while I admired our black shed. We just love it.
BUT I had wanted to add a sconce to the shed. Actually the good old Magic Light Trick! (If you already know the trick we used THESE exact puck lights).
The reason we didn’t add it to the shed in the first place was because the light I found at our local Home Depot was out of stock. So I thought I could add it later. Then yesterday I was in our basement and noticed THIS light we had sitting down there (I had posted it for sale on a local FB page and it hadn’t sold yet). I resurrected it and gave it a coat of my Favorite Gold Spray Paint (the bronze). Then added the Magic Light Trick to it! Not sure how often I will really turn it on….maybe when we have guests over!
I did spray paint the handle of the door with the same gold spray paint to pull it together. Someone had suggested I spray paint all the hardware. I loved that idea but decided against it….for now!
How to Triple the Life of Strawberries-
I first saw this Strawberry Trick over on @ClassyClutter Instagram Highlights. How to Triple the life of Strawberries! Kevin walked in the door with Strawberries. At first I was like….”those will not last and I will end up freezing them because they go bad in a day”! But then I remembered the strawberry trick and decided to try it. The result- it works!! And SO many of you said you do this all the time and agree it works. Also you do it to grapes, berries, veggies…all of it! NO VINEGAR FLAVOR!! Here is what you do-
- Get a large bowl or use your sink.
- Cover the strawberries in water. T
- Add in 1 cup of vinegar (can be white or apple cider vinegar, I used white). The ratio ended up being 5 parts water to 1 part vinegar.
- Set a timer for 10 minutes. Empty the water.
- Lay strawberries on a towel (that you don’t mind it gets red) to dry. It takes a couple hours.
- Place strawberries in a container in the fridge. I have used plastic and glass. Either one works!
Many readers suggested THESE containers to prolong the life of the strawberries and fruit even longer.
I did remove the stem of my strawberries because my kids waste so much of the strawberry if not. So many readers told me I needed THIS Strawberry Huller and save the stems for smoothies! The most nutrients are in the stem!

Organizing Challenge Coming up…
I asked over on Instagram who would be interested in participating in a Organizing Challenge!? Follow up from the blog post “How we organize our home”. SO many of you said yes! I had a printable created for you that I will be sharing tomorrow. I am very excited about how it turned out. We will do one challenge a week. So tomorrow we will start on clothing. I will share more about it tomorrow, watch for that blog post in the morning! And let me know any ideas you have for it. Have you done a challenge like this before? Let me know!
Love the lantern, Brooke! To think how many improvements you and Kevin have accomplished in the past two months is AMAZING and . . . INSPIRING!
Have a great weekend!
Lynne
Thank you Lynne!
Wow, Brooke! Your shed looks so so good! Love your style and the amazing team you have in your sweet family! Thank you for always inspiring in ALL that you do!
Thank you Tracy!
Looks so amazing!!!! Love your styles and ideas!
Looking forward to organizing with you!
yay!! Thanks Jenn!
i seriously love your black shed- i also admire your boldness and confidence – because that is what design (art) is really about, creating something you love! I’ve also been so inspired by your message on your instastories – done is better than perfect. i so often procrastinate on things because i want to wait until i have the time to do them perfect- and it really never turns out perfect anyway. Thanks for inspiring!!
I am so excited for an organization challenge!! I feel like I keep falling behind no matter how hard I fight to stay on top of it. I cannot function if things are disorganized.
The lantern looks great, along with painting the door handle to match. I just love everything you do. Also, I may just join your organization challenge… perhaps it will get me motivated to de-clutter. So happy I stumbled upon your blog. I believe its thanks to Beneath My Heart.
It looks PERFECT!!!
Thanks Mailia!
I know you said the lantern was just for looks, but couldn’t you put a solar light in there? I have several going down my deck stairs. I just take off the stakes & put them in ceiling fan light globes that I get from the thrift store. The lights are super cheap.
smart!! I was wondering what another solution would be!! Can you send me a picture??
Yes! The lantern is the icing on the cake. And you didn’t have to spend any money… I love re-purposing old things and giving them a 2nd life. Looks amazing!!! You motivate me daily!!
Love the shed and the paint you used on the door handle and the lantern. The lantern is just the right touch.
Your shed looks so amazing ! You guys are so talented – your home is just lovely ! Looking forward to Organization challenge and can’t believe how much I LOVE your Facebook group – what a great bunch of wonderful women ! Never a mean word – everyone is so supportive and kind. If I am feeling a little down I go on just to read all the supportive kind comments and I instantly feel better about humankind !!
P.S. Please tell Kevin he is looking just great without the shirt !
Hi Brooke- I am also so inspired by your blog and Instagram stories! Just an idea for your outside Magic Light Trick – a solar lightbulb for outdoors… here is a link
