While we were in Utah for the summer all I heard from Ella was “can I have my own bedroom?” I mean, I am sure we talked about other things. But what really stuck out was her asking me that question.
Every. Day.
I want my own bedroom.
I would tell her our house doesn’t have a spot for you to have your own bedroom and reminded her how much she loves sharing a room with Lola. Also she sleeps so much better having her sister in the room with her. She would stop. Then start again about the bedroom. Or she would ask if we could “decorate it”. Like it isn’t decorated already? I get it she is getting older and that means she thinks her bedroom needs a change.
She wants her own space. I did remind her that she has her awesome Lego room that is just hers. I took a poll on Instagram to see how many of you share a bedroom. 12k took my poll and this is the results-
12k Surveyed on Sharing Bedrooms-
47% said YES kids share a bedroom while 53% said NO
59% said YES they shared a bedroom growing up while 41% said NO
But Ella doesn’t care about the polls. What is came down to is that she wanted to decorate her bedroom and change it. Well, she really wanted a bunk bed with a desk under it. Not happening. Their beds are beautiful and will last them longer than a bunkbed will.
So I told her we could change out the wallpaper behind her bed to something with a lot of blue. She was very excited about this idea. Below is the new design plan for their bedroom, we designed together. Also Lola is super easy going and just wanted some pink.
Reminder of what their bedroom looks like now-
Anything I am not using in their room I am going to box up and send to my brother in Utah who recently had a baby girl! He is making over a room in his house for her to have when he has her. I will actually be using most of it, but for sure those hanging lights will go to him.
I created a design plan. Even though we aren’t changing everything it is still so important to have a plan. I suggest it to everyone! I shared how to make your own design board on THIS blog post you can do it the simple way or I also shared how I create these design boards for my blog and occasionally when I help a client.
Girls Shared Bedroom Plan-
We knew it had to work with some of the things we already had in their room- THIS fan and THIS rug
Wall White Sconce trying to decide if I should do two of those over each of their beds with magic light for reading or the hanging light below….
Hanging Light I like this hanging light because it will brighten up their room like the hanging lights we already have
Hawaiian Ocean Wallpaper I cannot wait to use this! I have been eyeing it for a long time and Ella fell for it too! It is temporary wallpaper- it will be so fun to use!
Pink and yellow Pillow We already got this and I love it for multiple spots in our home!
The World is Your Oyster Pillow This saying is a favorite perfect for my girls and our home
Amour Art I haven’t ordered this, I just really like it!
Girl with Flowers Art we already have this print and love it. I might use it somewhere in there room again.
White Rail Bed our beds are discontinued this one is pretty similar. I am also considering painting their beds white.
Obviously most of it it is staying, but it will be fun to share how little changes go a ling way!
And keeping our favorite hanging chair too! Find that post HERE

How fun! Their room is so unbelievably cute and I can’t wait to see the changes. I’ve always loved those hanging lights. I’d buy them from you in a heartbeat if they didn’t already have a special place to go. And even though I have boys, I’ve actually pulled many ideas for them from this room. Which they must share rooms too.
The room certainly is beautiful as is but I remember feeling the same when I shared a room with my sister. I actually grew up in your town! We had beds very similar to your girls beds 4-poster and stained wood. My mother loved those beds however, due to sloped ceilings in our room there was really only one way they would fit in the room. As we got older, middle school and high school, we really wante to change things! I will always remember how my mom took a deep breath, let us take down those beautiful beds and store them for a while, cover the beautiful wood floors with yellow wall-to-wall carpet, and have simple twin beds on a metal frame with no headboard that we could put anywhere in the room! As we grew older finished college and moved out of the house she gradually ripped up the carpet got her floors back and put the beautiful 4-post beds back where they belonged!
Oh I love this story!! Now I feel bad!!! ha! I just wonder if they would really love bunk beds over this?? Also we do have more than 2 people come to stay at once so guests end up sleeping in the girls beds….bunk beds might be tricky.
Your mom is a sweetie!!!
What do you suggest for fun, seating options (especially if a swing is not an option)?
A day bed?? A small rattan one is so fun
